Boston Hilton
Advantages: Comfortable, clean, good location Disadvantages: Prices during the week
...on Expedia and found a Hilton for less money I couldn’t believe my luck!
LOCATION:
This Hilton is located in Boston’s Financial District. It is at 89 Broad Street. Despite it being in the Financial District we found it very easy to walk from the hotel to the main tourist sites of the city. Quincy Market and the Old State House were only 10 minutes walk away.
PRICES:
The price of this particular hotel ... ...Ok so because it’s a Hilton it’s a bit corporate and there’s nothing really to separate it from any other big chain. A guesthouse would have been more interesting to stay in but it would have been further out of the centre and would actually have been more expensive. If you are staying in Boston on a Friday or Saturday night and can pick this hotel up for a cheap price then it’s definitely worth it. A little bit of luxury never hurt anyone, right?! more
I like my home comforts when I am travelling abroad, but Mr Tart is quite happy to stay in any old hostel. We were looking for somewhere to stay on a trip to Boston and had decided that a guest house would be a happy medium. However, they weren’t that cheap and when I had a look on Expedia and found a Hilton for less money I couldn’t believe my luck!
LOCATION: This Hilton is located in Boston’s Financial District. It is at 89 Broad Street. Despite it being in the Financial District we found it very easy to walk from the hotel to the main tourist sites of the city. Quincy Market and the Old State House were only 10 minutes walk away.
PRICES: The price of this particular hotel seems to vary a lot depending on when you stay and who you book through. As the hotel is in the Financial District it puts up a lot of business people so the prices seem to shoot up from Sunday to Thursday. We were staying Friday and Saturday nights and I booked through Expedia where it cost £68 per room per night. However, my parents came down and stayed in the same hotel on the Sunday night and it cost them over $200 for the room. We had paid for a standard king sized bed room (although we were upgraded) and my parents had two doubles in their room.
CHECKING IN: My flight had been delayed from New York to Boston and Mr Tart, who was travelling up separately, got there before me. He couldn’t check in as the room was booked in my name. However, they were very nice and let him leave his luggage while he came to the airport to meet a very stressed me (7 hours in Newark airport will do that!). When we got to the hotel check in was easy and there was a lovely girl on the desk who Mr Tart had obviously charmed because she upgraded us to a suite because he had waited so long for me!
THE ROOM: I was extremely happy when after nearly 24 hours of being awake we got into the room. It was a very impressive room. We had a lounge area with a sofa bed and a couple of chairs and a TV. Also there was a small kitchen area with a sink and coffee machine. The bedroom had a massive king sized bed, desk and TV. The bathroom was in two parts, with the sink unit being an alcove off the bedroom and the bathroom proper with the toilet and shower/bath in a separate room.
The room was decorated in a traditional hotel style, quite plain, tourist pictures on the walls. The bathroom was made to look like marble and was very effective. The bed was incredibly comfortable. It was firm but not hard, with enough pillows for an army. The sheets were fresh and clean and we both slept really well. The shower was really nice, good pressure with a big shower head so your whole body is covered!
The room also had Internet access although you had to pay for this which we didn’t do. There was wired and wireless available. The wardrobe contained two bathrobes which were a nice touch because they’re something you don’t really take on holiday. There was a mini-bar but there was no way that we were going to use anything from it. There was free tea and coffee and that was plenty for us. Mr Tart was happy because there was a real coffee machine and not just instant. The toiletries were good. They were Crabtree and Evelyn La Source ones which is quite a pricey make. They provided shampoo, conditioner (it really annoys me when hotels only provide shampoo – they should automatically go together!), body wash, lotion, cotton wool buds and balls, a shower cap, shoe horn, shoe buffer and sewing kit. Not too bad on the ‘freebies’ then!
FOOD: We did not eat at the hotel as I find that hotels are normally overpriced for food. We opted to have breakfast out. However, should you wish to stay in the hotel they have a restaurant which does breakfast, lunch and dinner and a bar which serves bar food from noon.
FACILITIES: The hotel has a small fitness room. There is WiFi, although you have to pay for it which always annoys me so we didnt use it. Given its location you wont be surprised to hear that the hotel has meeting facilities and a business centre.
CONCLUSION: I really liked this hotel. Ok so because it’s a Hilton it’s a bit corporate and there’s nothing really to separate it from any other big chain.
