Before I go into the details of the hotel itself and the available facilities, I would like to say that I have been a resident in Dubai for 11 years now and have seen everything this hotel has been through from its own construction, the problems it faced with the jumeirah beach residence project right through to today! The Hilton, built in an area that used to be considered as 'out in the middle of nowhere' is now very much apart of what is soon likely to be the centre of Dubai, the Dubai Marina. This is the new, futuristic, modern end of the Emirate of Dubai and is where it all happens. The majority of the beach clubs and restaurants are in this area of town and it is suitabley located to allow for fairly speedy access to the rest of Dubai.
The hotel is a short taxi ride away from the Mall of the Emirates and Ibn Battuta Mall. Coming this August it will be a a short taxi ride away from the largest Shopping Mall in the world, The Dubai Mall. The hotel sits on the beach front on the far side of the Jumeirah Beach and has stunning veiws of The Palm Jumeirah.
It must be mentioned that there were problems with the construction surrounding the hotel, however this has now all calmed down signifiicantly and construction is now mostly taking place inside the builidngs and is therefore quiet. The road system is back to normal and the area beauification is underway, in other words it doesn't look like a construction site anymore!!
The hotel itself is in fact 4 star, however it rivals most of the 5 star hotels that we know in western Europe. Dubai just has a much more competitive rating system than that found in the rest of the world, considering that their competition is the Burj al Arab, The Burj Dubai, Al Qasr etc all worthy of 6/7 stars by traditional standards!The hotel boasts many facilites:
There is a fantastic beach club, surrounded by many others, which allows for long walks along the beach.
All the watersports that you would expect are available, for a reasonable extra price.
Large swimming pool with bar sunken into the pool.
Plenty of sunbathing space around pool and on the beach.
There is an excellent Spa & Health Club with a great little gym. (All recentley refirbished)
There are two fantastic restaurants which are so popular they attract many of the residents of Dubai on top of the hotel guests. Bice is definitely worth booking and so is Pachanga the second restaurant. Bice is Italian and the other is a combination of south american, both excellent!
Brilliant celebratory parties for events like New Years.
There are around 400 rooms, all very comfortable, ones with sea views are obviously harder to get!
From a business point of view, there are 3 or more conference rooms with all the necessary facilities.
Room prices vary from 900DHS-1,800DHS. (Divide by 7 to convert to pounds)
It is worth noteing that as with all Dubai hotels, space is limited over christmas and easter period, and also can be quite pricey. However if the heat does not put you off the summer prices come down significantly! This is because the temperature reaches 48 degress C and above. I have been in and out of this hotel for over 6 years now, I have stayed there, used the beach club on many occasions, used the health club and have eaten in the restaurants more times than I can remember and can say with first hand experience that it is a great hotel, full of character and well worth a visit!
