Hilton Hotel, Kingston

Advantages: good special offers, large chain, modern comfortable 4 star hotels
Disadvantages: none i can think of

...A year or so ago, Stakis Hotels ceased to exist as they was taken over by another famous hotel chain called HILTON (www.hilton.com). All old Stakis Hotels are still in existence but have changed names and some have had major refurbishments (Hilton Dunblane Hydro for one). I am a fan of weekend breaks (especially having 2 young kids and working full time)and I have stayed at several Hilton hotels, usually when they are offering special rates. My 2 most recent breaks were to the Hilton Coylumbridge, near Aviemore and Hilton Strathclyde, near Glasgow. Both were on Winter Break Specials for 2 nights for 2 people B&B with diner included on the first night for only £99 (pretty good eh?) This price goes up slightly in Feb, March and April. They did however offer the same deal last summer - well worth a visit.... Read review

Disadvantages: Old hotel

...The Hilton hotel in Blackpool is in an ideal location on the sea front at the end of the promenade. The rooms are on the small side but have all the necessities. I do not think it is as luxurious as some other Hiltons and it appears to be an oldish hotel, which has been taken over by this company. The shower was a bit disappointing - weak and too short for anyone over six foot! On the plus side, the hotel lobby is very glamorous and the staff were very helpful. The buffet breakfast was huge and could satisfy anyone. I had dinner there but was quite disappointed with meal as it was fairly ordinary. Warning though, the bar prices are extortionate! There was also a live singer in the bar who was very entertaining. The swimming pool is nice but a little on the small side.... Read review

Advantages: Good location

...The Kensington Hilton is a slight misnomer as it is closer to Holland Park. It is easy to find, just off the motorway. The underground car park is not owned by Hilton, but you can get a discount coupon from reception if you are resident. The exterior and lobby are very impressive, with green coated doormen and at least two people manning the concierge desk at all times. Rooms however are a big disappointment. Small and cramped, often with just a shower and no bath. Room service meals are poor, clearly prepared by porters rather than chefs. There is a Japanese restaurant attached to the hotel, and the bar offers snacks. The whole hotel gives the impression that it was last overhauled in the early eighties and it could do with a large investment to bring it up to scratch.
