We chose Portsmouth as we liked the area and had been there before and as we were taking our two small children (two year old and 3 months old) we new there were lots of places to take the kids regardless of the weather places such as Pirate Petes and Wacky warehouse which are always a favourite with my lively two year old. There is also the Gunwarlf shopping centre which offers big discounts on designer names and plenty of nice places to eat .

Before unpacking I went for a quick look around the hotel and was disapointed by the swimming pool which was tiny and not in operation unitl the morning we checked out. The bar area and resturant were lacking in charater. I was looking foward to dinner later as the smell from the kitchen was leading me to think good things were to come!
We booked early for dinner because of the children and it was very quiet the staff were very helpful and the food was good (especially for the price we paid) and childrens meals were included free of charge. I assumed breakfast would be quite good as well but it was very disapointing food was buffett style and was warm not hot it was extremely busy so we had to sit in the bar whre people were smoking in the end we decided to give it a miss which I did not mind because of the price if however I had paid £80 -£90 per night as the price is now on the websit I would have been ready to complian but if you see the "winter breaks offer" again I would strongly recommded a stay at Portsmouth Hilton !

Quick review of Hilton Hotel, Portsmouth
An absolutely awful experience as a mouse appeared in the dining room and was chased around by 2 people, which they lost. It put me completely off my dinner as i wondered if there were vermin in the kitchens (where my food was prepared). Unfortunately no staff members would comment on the situation, not even a simple apology, even though we asked to speak to a manager on 3 occassions to discuss it ; i think he was hiding from the mice!!! (disgusting customer service).
Only go if you love mice and want to spend all your time jumping on tables.
I have stayed at many Hilton hotels across the UK and the service has been wonderful - sorry i can't say the same for Portsmouth. ...

Advantages: Busy busy busy! Disadvantages: People trying to get to the coast!
I have lived in Pompey for 5 years now and know my way around pretty much. Pompey is famous for the dockyards and the Mary Rose so we atract hundred of thousands of visitors down to the coast. Where the fishing is good, there are two arcades and many chippies for when you get hungry!
I would not suggest people come to spend their holidays here, but it is definately worth spending a couple of days in and around Portsmouth. Hotels are plentyful and range from Hilton and Forte to the smaller and cheaper family-run sea front B&B. You are close to the New Forest, and access in and out of Portsmouth by rail or road is reasonable.
In terms of a place to shop, pompey has its main high street with an ample selection of shops and fast food restaurants. I think that if you want a shopping day out then you are better off going to Southampton ...
Advantages: Loads to do, good public transport service, great choice of shops Disadvantages: Parts of the City are a bit run down
always popular with small children.

*~*CANOE LAKE*~*
Canoe Lake is located near the model village and is basically a large lake with pedalo style boats that you can hire during the High Season.
*~*SOUTH PARADE PIER*~*
South Parade Pier is a popular place with tourists - there isn't really much there, mainly just a few small fun fair rides and an amusement arcade but it is quite pleasant to take a walk along the pier.
**PLACES TO STAY**
Portsmouth & Southsea both boast many hotels and guest houses including the Marriot and Hiltonhotels which are both located close to the Motorway and approximately 10/15 minutes drive from the City Centre and Beach.
