Hilton Hotel - York

Advantages: Excellent location
Disadvantages: Weird car-park

I went to the Hilton for 3 nights from 27th-30th December 08 during the Christmas period. I went with a friend and her family who had gone to the Hilton the previous Christmas. The rooms were £99 per night for 2 people which I thought was very reasonable. (Although I'm aware depending on season this cost can vary) This included bed, breakfast and a 3 course evening meal (the evening meal only on one night) My friend took charge of booking us into ...
...to book yet I never heard any complaints about the process.

Arrival and Check-in
When we arrived at the hotel we were directed to an underground car-park. I wasn't too keen on the car park which comprised rows of 3 cars tightly parked together actually parking each other in! Our car was at the front yet I'm not sure how the third car back would go about getting out! We did have to leave the keys on reception (so they could ... more

Value for Money

Very disappointing

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive mistake

We have never been so disappointed with a supposedly 'luxury' hotel. Despite booking a 'deluxe' room, the room was tiny, the bath was stained and suitable only for the short of limb, the 'castle' view was of the castle car park and the deluxe package of fruit, wine, dressing gowns was no where to be found. It was all hard work, phoning reception to point out everything missing, being woken by the cleaners at 8.50 on a Sunday morning, and being given ...

Quick review of Hilton Hotel, York

I stayed at the Hilton hotel in York recently and did not have a good experience. Four people shared a room and we only had enough amenities for two people even though they were aware that four people were staying in the room. When we woke up in the morning we noticed that the bed sheets under which we had slept were full of stains and holes. It was quite obvious that the bed covers had not been changed. I would not expect this of a Travel Lodge never mind the Hilton! In future I will save my money, stay in a Travel Lodge and have better service! ...

Comfortable business class hotel in great location

Advantages: Great mid-town location. Newly renovated
Disadvantages: Large. Service is spotty.

If you're looking for a business class hotel in mid-town Manhattan, you can't go wrong with the Hilton New York. It's between 53rd and 54th Street and 6th Ave (Ave of the Americas) and is therefore located within walking distances to Broadway theatres (one block over on 7th Ave), Rockefeller Center (down 6th Ave @ 50th Street) and offices in Mid-Town Manhattan. Access to the hotel is easy via subway and parking is available for $40/night. It's main competition is the Sheraton a block away on 7th Ave. The Hilton is a huge hotel (over 1000 rooms with 44 floors) and is a busy during convention season. We visited New York in October and stayed at the Hilton for 2 nights with our children and what follows below is a recap of our experience. Rates: We used Hotwire and managed to get a great $135/night rate. The standard weekday ...

Review of Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, New York City

Clifford's Tower-the Eye of York, the eye of history

Advantages: Convenient location, informative historical site with magnificent views.
Disadvantages: No audio guide available. No disability and toilet facilities.

and Rowntrees, a famous chocolate factory in the distance. The best view is of York Minster. Two tall medieval Gothic towers are surrounded by low red houses. Without the busy traffic and Hilton Hotel beneath you may think you had come upon the setting for a film called The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Opening Time and Entrance Fee Clifford's Tower is open daily except Christmas day and New Year's day. In summer time it opens from 10am to 5pm. In winter time it closes one hour earlier. It's free for English Heritage members and York Pass holders. Normally there is a charge of £3.50 for adults, £1.80 for children and £8.80 for families. My opinion Before I visited Clifford's Tower I had read a few articles about it. When I was there I was still shocked by what I saw, in particular the sad story of the Jews. Compared to ...

THE FIVE STAR TREATMENT

Advantages: A wonderful luxurious break
Disadvantages: Staff could be a bit more personal

are suites broken into junior suites and suites. For those non-smokers rooms are available. The hotel will cater for conference and parties, and the business traveller is well catered for. The Conrad International is a chain of superior hotels and in the group (which l have mentioned is part of the overall Hilton Group) includes such top class hotels as The Waldorf Towers, in New York or the Conrad Istanbul. So l was staying is style!! Overall Thoughts I enjoyed my stay immensely and as l was not picking up the bill it made my stay even more enjoyable! This is also the reason l have not commented on tariffs, but if you wish to book, check out rates or take a closer look at the hotels in the group check out www.conradhotels.com. I enjoyed my stay, and l would go back! Funnily, Paul has been back a few times since ? the Hilton ...
