In 2000 i became an employee of Livingwell Health clubs - which is part of the the Hilton Group. I had never before even considered going to stay at a hilton hotel as i always thought they were much too expensive. But it was when i joined that i found out that some, yes, were a bit pricey, but that others were actually very reasonable. I did actually get a 15% discount because i was an employee, but i would have definately started staying at them even without this.
There are, as i said earlier, many countries that are home to hilton hotels; Dubai, Malta, Rome to name but a few. And of course good ol' England. And are all set in either beautiful locations, or prime loactions for shoppng, business, etc. The very first hotel i stayed at was the metropole in the centre of London. It was gorgeous. It was very simplistic, but felt amazing to be staying there. Me and a few friends went there for my birthday and had an excellent time. The only downside was that you had to either bus, or taxi to anywhere of interest. We had a good walk aroun when we first got there, but unfortunately there seemed to be only offices and lots (and i mean lots!) of foreign eateries. But for people in london for business this would be ideal.
The staff were really friendly and efficient. However there was a mix up my room. We booked a double and a twin, but had given my rdouble room away - they said this was because they had a party wanting to book in and were short 1 room, and as they were full paying customers ( obviously i got the employee discount) they came first. I understood that but was a bit miffed as i was there for my birthday! But they had already arranged something else for me. Thinking it was probably a box room in the basement, i was pleasantly suprised (ok, overwhelmed) when they told me they'd given me the executive room as way of compensation!! Obviously we all ran upstairs with anticipation. We coudnt wait to see what the room was like. And it most definately did not disappoint! It was so nice. Huge wraparound windows with amazing views - one of which being the london eye - and the tv was massive, the fridge was stocked with (overpriced i might add) food and drink, the bed was sooo big! And all for me! I couldnt have been happier.
Our one night stay was one of the best ive ever had - ive recommended that hotel to several people and they've all agreed that they got it spot on!
Ive been to a few others since then. and as i dont work for the company anymore, i pay full price just like evryone else, and dont mind one bit!
Advantages: A really nice good quality hotel Disadvantages: Room could be updated a little
. The view out of the window was nothing great, of a police station but in central London I have found very few hotels can offer a good view, and at least this one was not of a brick wall two feet away! There wasn't all that much space, but the room was well designed. The beds were definitely designed for a good night's sleep, with plenty of pillows and a very comfortable matress. The only thing I would say is that the decor was a little dated - but I know the hotel was being refurbished while we were there so maybe they are better now.
We were booked into the hotel's restaurant for dinner on our first night as part of our room package, and the meal we had was way above the standard I expected for such a bargain. The service in the restaurant was brilliant, discreet and efficient and the food was excellent.
After a good night's sleep in ...
