If your wondering why you shouldnot be reading this, it because its 8pm on a Friday night and everyone should be out enjoying themselves. My excuse is that Im still very ill and its just kill me walking 200 metres to the shop....for some beer I might add. I stayed at this hotel last Friday night, due to the early morning departure of my flight off to Vienna. This hotel is the only hotel located within the near location of Stansted airport, and because of this the hotel can charge what they want (and believe me they do) and you either pay it or stay miles away.
The hotel is located about 5 miles away from the airport at the end of the runway. Therefore this hotel was very noise and even the double glazing didnot help us much. Please be aware that Stansted is also Londons heavy freight terminal and therefore you will have cargo Jumbos taken of all night. The hotel is linked to the hotel by a shuttle bus that runs twice an hour and costs two pounds per person each way for the ten minute journey.
The room was a small standard double and cost us £80.00 including tax but breakfast was extra. I had rang the hotel about two months earlier and they then quoted £167 room only, only by leaving it a week before hand to book I got the lower rate. In the hotel they actually advertise that rates can go up to £212 at reception!!!!.
The hotel do have a long stay car parking , but they charge for this as well and was quoted £13 for each 24 hour period for four days. Long stay car parking at Stansted by BAA was quoted at £22.00 for the four days, so unless you get a parking inclusive price dont stay here. Can I suggest trying to book your rooms via a travel agency and ask to use ABC for good rates for parking inclusive hotel deals. As I had already booked direct with the hotel, ABC werenot allowed to do a duplicate booking (if only I found out 5 hours earlier!!!)
The room was small, but clean and we did have the choice of asking for non smoking rooms when we booked. The room had Satalite TV, with internet access via a proper keyboard for 10p per minute, I was tempted to log on and do some reading at Ciao!!!. Also the room had a hairdryer, telephone and coffee/tea making facilites. The hotel do not offer a wake up call in the morning, and the alarm on the phone I couldnot understand.....so if you have to be up early in the morning please remember to take a good alarm clock!!
If anyone knows anywhere else to stay in Stansted other than sleeping overnight in the terminal, please add it as a comment for information for others!!! Cheers Bazza
