Well first, the hotel's surroundings. It is situated in Ixia, between the Diagoras airport and the main rhodes town. Due to it's location, the resort, as well as the one next door, Ialyssos can seem cramped and busy. I have just returned from a very pleasant stay in the Hilton Rhodes resort, and i found it all round a very pleasant experience.
Well first, the hotel's surroundings. It is situated in Ixia, between the Diagoras airport and the main rhodes town. Due to it's location, the resort, as well as the one next door, Ialyssos can seem cramped and busy. One of the main contributers to this feeling is the main road, its busy from early in the morning to around 3am at night, and can take up to 5 minutes to cross. This is, of course intensely irritating. However, a 10 minute drive, or six euro(7 if you call the taxi), is rhodes town. This, I believe is a fantastic place and is shrouded in history and myth. Shopping is fantastic as well, with rip off designer gear circulating very cheaply all around, and the wide choice of restaurants is refreshing and pleasant.
Ixia itself, also has many tavernas, the one i found very pleasant was the Ialysion centre, which is a short walk from the Hilton in the direction of Rhodes, the pizzas where the best I have ever tasted. Shops are also in abundence, where 500ml of cola can be brought for around 1 euro, and water for around 50 cents. The refreshment will be needed, the heat there is amazing.
The Hilton building is not incredibly attractive, although it has been creatively designed with lots of different edges and contours, the building is entirely concrete. It has been painted various colours, and is lit cleverly at night. The grounds are landscaped fantastically, and the area around the main lagoon pool is very pleasant indeed, and you can usually find a sunlounger as well! The main pool is flanked at both ends by smaller pools for kids, and another one by the piano bar which is more of a square shape. You can spend many lazy days here.
The beach, i feel is not so much cop. It is located by a path under the road, but is more of a dirt and pebble beach than anything else. The water is also made choppy by the fact this side of the island enjoys a breeze, which, although makes heat more bearable, it means the water is not clear. The best beach we found was to be located 25km away, just south of Faliraki on the other side of the island, called Tsambika. The water was crystal clear, it was sandy, had good washing facilities and good watersports. The hotel also boasts, as well as the pools, a sauna, a collection of shops(not cheap!), a games room(pool, air hockey, table football), an internet cafe(15 euros for 1 week access), and 3 cafes/bars. Cafe de paris was 29 euros per person for a set menu, the lounge bar was not cheap but not extravagant for snacks and drinks and the main restuarant served breakfast for 15 euros, which included croissants, yogurts, fruits, fried breakfasts and toasts. This is, however a lot compared to what you pay outside the hotel.
The room was very pleasant, painted in white, and it had air conditioning. Beach and pool towels were provided, as well as cosmetics, tea and coffee, a fridge and a hairdryer in each room. Television was limited to BBC Prime and BBC World, and lots of different language channels. This also brings me to another point, there was a massive variety of nationalities at the hotel. Danes, Dutch, Germans, French, British, Italians and a few Americans. I found this a pleasant change from holidaying in places such as the Costa del Sol, where English tourists can be found in abundence.
The hotel provided me with a pleasant and relaxing holiday, however, it doesnt come cheap!!!
