Sorrento was one of the most beautiful places i have ever visited in my life. My family and I decided to go to the south of Italy for pure pleasure and to enjoy the civillians of Sorrento's loving and welcoming nature.
The hotel we picked was spot on - not in a busy, touristy packed resort but in a place where we could relax a bit and enjoy the scenery of the beautiful town of Sorrento. It also isn't long walk from the town centre depending on how much you like to walk! This Hilton hotel was one of the last places we picked to have a look at (probably because Paris Hilton came into our minds!), but we booked it in the end because of the quality of the hotel based on reviews.
The prices are a bit high, it all depends on the budget your planning to spend. On www.lastminute.com, the room prices are £146 - £310. The prices vary depending on what season you wish to visit Sorrento. The hotel was brilliant though. It was clean, sophisticated, and very proffesional. The service was good and the staff were very friendly i have to say, always there to help you whether your wondering where to go, have a problem or if you want to buy bus tickets. There are many facilities in the hotel if you're planning to spend a few days relaxing in the hotel. There are swimming pools (indoor and out), fitness equipment, poolside bar, internet access, parking, and other amenities which may enhance your experience in Sorrento.
I loved the food there; it was pure Italian food and gorgeous. There are more than one restaurants in the Hilton hotel but my family and I only went to one. The restaurant we went to every breakfast and dinner was brilliant. A buffet for breakfast with fresh egg, sausages, croissants, other pastries, and other refreshing food to wake you up for the day. At dinner in the evening, it's a whole different story. It's a menu based service where you chose from a few dishes for an astonishing 4 courses. It was such a change from normal hotels where you don't get to have ordained dinners which i think you need to experience. They served a variety of different dishes, from pasta to steak, to risotto and fish. The food was heaven! The deserts were also very pleasurably yummy as you could have cakes and pastry's with an ice cream buffet. We spent our lunches in other cafes and restaurants situated in Sorrento.
I have to say my experience in Sorrento was pure bliss, everything about it impressed me. The food, scenery, culture, history and the sense of welcoming has really has made look into travelling to the south of Italy again - possibly Sicily this time! The best time to go to Sorrento i would say is july-august time, but that depends on your preferences and whether you can endure the heat. I did find it sizzling hot in Sorrento at that time but alas it was a change from England's wet, cold and unpredictable weather! Also that problem could be fixed with a quick dip in a swimming pool or the sea depending which hotel you visit.
The town of Sorrento is full of history and antiquity - right before your eyes you can see the famous mount Vesuvius which really is a treat to the eyes seeing it sit amongst the calm blue meditteranean sea. You can also visit the remains of the ancient city of Pompeii and experience a really fascinating visit to understand what happened the day that valcano viscously errupted many thousand years ago.
If you wish to visit islands close to Naples - the Amalfi, said to be the most beautiful coast in the world, which i didn't get to visit as there weren't enough days in our holiday; or Capri, which i have personally taken a trip to and had a brilliant time, in the city centre of Sorrento there are boat trips you can take there which is really convenient!
The 'Hilton Sorrento Palace' was a treat but quite expensive, seeming there were seven of us and the flight tickets, but it may be a different story and it might fit in your criteria. It did however impress us most when browsing and it sure did impress us while we were there. So if you're looking for a budget hotel, maybe this is not the one, but if you aren't i would definitely recommend you visit the town of Sorrento and stay at the Hilton!

The Sorrento Palace is set in the Amalfi hillside and boasts spectacular views across the bay of Naples to Mount Vesuvius. We spent a fantastic 7 nights here as part of our honeymoon in 2004, although if it hadn't have been our honeymoon we probably wouldn't have stayed here - well worth the money though (a week in August will set you back around £650pp). The rooms are fresh and clean and spacious, with satellite television, minibar and a balcony. ... ...Martini station where you can try different martini cocktails (I thoroughly recommend the Sorrento Martini). There are six interconnecting outodoor swimming pools with plenty of sunbeds available and another large pool indoors which is open during the winter months. There's a poolside bar which also serves food. The main restaurant is stunning, and if you're lucky or early enough to get a terrace table you can watch the sun go down over Vesuvius. ...
