The Sorrento Palace is set in the Amalfi hillside and boasts spectacular views across the bay of Naples to Mount Vesuvius. We spent a fantastic 7 nights here as part of our honeymoon in 2004, although if it hadn't have been our honeymoon we probably wouldn't have stayed here - well worth the money though (a week in August will set you back around £650pp). The rooms are fresh and clean and spacious, with satellite television, minibar and a balcony. The bar is comfortable and inviting, and there's a Martini station where you can try different martini cocktails (I thoroughly recommend the Sorrento Martini). There are six interconnecting outodoor swimming pools with plenty of sunbeds available and another large pool indoors which is open during the winter months. There's a poolside bar which also serves food. The main restaurant is stunning, and if you're lucky or early enough to get a terrace table you can watch the sun go down over Vesuvius. The food is excellent - four courses and there's a choice of dishes for each course apart from the antipasta. The hotel is about a fifteen minute walk from the centre of Sorrento. Unfortunately there's no bus service so it can be a bit of a trek uphill, but if you book any excursions (we went to Capri and Pompeii) the tour bus picks you up from outside the hotel.
