Imagine a place older than Athens, older than Carthage, older than Rome; a place brimming with archaeological and historical treasures but that hardly gets any visitors in comparison with the others. Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second city, is just such a place. In 432 Plovdiv was conquered by Philip of Macedonia and under the Roman Empire it was the capital of Thrace. The legacy of the Romans alone would make Plovdiv stick out as a place of great significance but it doesn't stop there. Old Plovdiv is essentially an open-air museum with over 150 examples of Bulgarian architecture, much of it from the National Revival period. It is especially cheering to hear that the Old Town of Plovdiv is actually a town in its own right with particular emphasis on restoring and preserving notable buildings.

without brake. Open-air events and fests are often held. Operas, theaters, cinemas and many others are available foir the visitors of the town, seeking alternative entertainment. There are many good restaurants, offering typical bulgarian and foreign cuisine, in which you can have dinner at extremely low prices. The variety of meals will surprise you.

Well, I think you will have lots of interesting things to do. Probably you will spent most of the time of your visit in the Old City, because I believe that the typical ancient atmosphere is worth feeling. The Old City is a whole living museum, representing the cultural and historical development of the bulgarian nation. Advantages: SPA, swimming pools, historical sights of the village Disadvantages: very hot in the summer
The small village Hissar is in Bulgaria near a very famous city Plovdiv.
Please don't think that Augusta SPA Hotel is in Plovdiv. It is in the small and very interesting historical city Hissar which 55 km far from Plovdiv. You may arrive in Sofia by irplane and go in Hissar by bus. Hissar is 174.64 far from the capital Sofia.
Hissar city is located in the central part of the country under the southern slopes of the Central forest at 360 m above sea level (see wikipedia)
We visit SPA Hotel Augusta at least twice a year - we like it very much.
