...present at all. Hluhluwe (pronounced Welsh ll-oo-Welsh ll-oo-way) and Umfolozi were originally two different parks, and they still retain very individual characters. Umfolozi was once the royal hunting ground of the most famous Zulu chief, Shaka, in the early 1800s. The Hluhluwe section in the northern half of the park has a hilly topography with the Hluhluwe River meandering through. The Umfolozi section in the south is flatter, still with a few huge hills, but mainly open valleys, with a variety of foliage from grassy plains to bush thicket and woodland.
