Alone this area makes a visit of the court brew house worthwhile. One is in one of the most beautiful and most remarkable corners of Munich because between the partly ancient ruins. The so-called glut (main restaurant) is in the ground floor. The drinking room (smaller tables) is located in the upper story of (a separate entrance). In addition, there still is a hall for special great events and beer garden in this summers unite. One can obtain an impression on the Internet under www.hofbraeuhaus.de. There also is by the way insight into Bavarian recipes like 'Obazter' there. At present, has the court brew house to the 200 employees. 5000 guests consume 4000 meals daily and drink 50 hl of beer. Of course such a large-scale enterprise also has a butcher's shop of its own at its disposal. I pass by the national theatre, coming from the U station Odeon place. The opera visitors just stream there. There is active business. I reach the pedestrian precinct (a bicycle Rambo drives me almost over the heap) to the Platzl soon, keeping to the left. It is a mild, dry winter's day. The walk can therefore be enjoyed by the narrow lanes really (except for bicycle Rambo). I am punctual at 7 p.m. there. I go into the glut below only. How one can a gigantic hall with innumerable groups of regulars recognize by celebration installed signposts. Just, the prejudice dispelled, the court brew house primarily only is for the tourists there, is for me with that. I turn several rounds trace, of a CIAO group of regulars or known faces but no-one. Bavarian waitresses, such as also on the Munich Beer Festival, are noted for their a little strong way. They have male support principally from Eastern Europe meanwhile. An impolite copy from this region only threatens me at once to smash the skull for me with a litre beer mug because I am entitled to him in the way. Therefore I do not consider me a guest seen with pleasure but unwelcome intruder here. Anyway there is full business at that time. Who would like to carouse here with more than 2 persons should certainly reserve before. The place is for the band in a central place. Do not act it to this time yet, though. Another visitor who seems looking for <losgatos> like me just consults a waiter, also because of CIAO group of regulars. A colleague knows this must be in the drinking room well above. Therefore I also get to know the drinking room. For larger rounds one must arrange a couple of tables here.
The menu is no longer purely kept Bavarian but also English already to approach the tourists. The presented food however is most of customary, roast pork or is Haxn at the agenda. A portion of meat loafs with potato salad costs almost 6 euros, a weiss beer 3.30 euros. Definitely this is not cheap absolutely but for a strongly frequented restaurant and in consideration of an included entertainment adequately. A keyboard player who does not give only typically Bavarian music but more international atmosphere songs to the best one delivers the latter. The food is served very fast, the quality (particularly that one of the potato salad) are rather moderate anyway. When I set out toward 11 p.m., the swarms of black dressed operas and theatregoers approach me on the way to the underground again. The evening has all in all been worthwhile.
The court brew house which can look back at a long tradition is still regular meeting place of many groups of regulars and attraction for tourists from all the world today. For one like me which is not a supporter of Bavarian beer bliss and cheap propaganda forced, in future either, it will not turn favourite restaurant. In future sometimes, however, the old Munich quarter it is located in will be worth a small stroll for me again.
