These were just some of the questions when in 1857 "Art Treasures of the United Kingdom" brought together over 16000 exhibits of the most historic and modern art ever displayed and were housed in one of the largest temporary structures ever built. It was visited by Queen Victoria and Charles Dickens.
Now 150 years later the gallery has tracked down and brought back some of the original exhibits including works by Michelangelo, Turner, Hogarth, Constable and Gainsborough. Advantages: Short walk from the centre, varied exhibitions, close to the Dean Gallery Disadvantages: Works exhibited are a bit hit and miss (maybe thats just modern art for you!), small
...The Scottish National Museum for Modern Art is situated across from its sister gallery (The Dean Gallery).
A number of visits have shown the displays to be varied and changing although the quality of exhibitions can vary.
It is situated within grounds replete with sculpture, and although it is a small gallery, it is well worth a visit, especially when combined with the Dean.
Probably the best loved exhibit is that of the American Tourists, a sculpture of the stereotypical vistors Edinburgh gets from the US. They have frequently confused vistors with their life like appearance, and really need to be observed a while to make sure they are not real!...

...Aberdeen ArtGallery is the main artgallery in the City of Aberdeen and was designed by Alexander Marshall McKenzie.It is located in the City centre close to Union Street -the city's main shopping street. The ArtGallery is very easy to find as it is located in Schoolhill which is just off Union street.
The Aberdeen ArtGallery has large collection of displays on the city's rich cultural heritage as well as arts from all over the UK. There is a large collection of works of art, including outstanding examples of Modern Art, which appeals to visitors of all ages.
