Alton House Hotel

Advantages: Posh hotel, it looks nice, but...
Disadvantages: The staff

I went to stay here in 2006, I think. For my sisters wedding. It was a nice hotel, the architecture inside I knew wasn't real, but it was meant to look posh. Which it did, but only in one room... the reception. So, I stayed here for two days and one night. I didn't sleep on a proper bed, because the room was full in which I was sleeping in (Since its a wedding and all). So in the corner of the room, I had to sleep on a horrible, tiny, lumpy bed. Which can be folded again into a bag. Of course, I can't blame the hotel for the poor bed, because this was my own fault. I'm sure that if there weren't so many people I could of slept on the double bed, which is better. So, in the early days, considering to be the 1800's - Alton House Hotel used to be a house. Not a hotel. Rich people used to live in this house. It was only in the 1940's that ...

The Doll's House Restaurant, St Andrews

Advantages: great selection of food, good cheaper options, nice ambience
Disadvantages: feeling rushed, rubbish veg selection

The Doll' House Restaurant in St Andrews is a very popular restaurant among tourists, locals, students, and St Andrews very cosmopolitan transient community. It is owned by Simon Littlejohn (of Littlejohn's restaurants) and Alex Knight, who I think have owned it for about 13 years together. The Doll's House Restaurant is the flagship restaurant of the group 'House Restaurants' - which also include - The Grill House (St Andrews), The Glasshouse (St Andrews) and The Riverhouse (Stirling). All of these restaurants have their own style, ambience, and each focuses on a particular genre of food. The Doll's House is a bistro style restaurant which claims it focuses on Scottish cuisine with a French twist - which I think in the majority is true - but their Hungarian Goulash, and the Cantonese monkfish stirfry which I saw on the menu ...

Review of Dolls House Restaurant (St Andrews)

Lochside House Hotel, Ayrshire, Scotland

Advantages: perfect service, helpful staff, lovely food and rooms
Disadvantages: can be somewhat expensive but you will get great service

Lochside House Hotel Located in the western Ayrshire, ¾ distance on A76 from Cumnock to New Cumnock lies the family hotel Lochside. As the name says, it's in the vicinity of two lakes, one of them Loch of the Lowes. This hotel is owned by the Kyle family, who have purchased the property almost 10 years ago when it was in the state of a more or less ruined old farmhouse and they have advanced and refusbished it into a 3-star hotel which has to offer much more than just bed and breakfast. I have worked in this hotel but it wouldn't be fair to tell you the Kyles' knowhow, now would it? I always thought it must be a pleasure to stay at Lochside as the service as well as staff was always brilliant, rooms well furnished and properly cleaned, menu vast and lots to choose from, also I've seen many guests coming back and a number ...
