My Experience…
Ok, so it's nearly here! The holiday I've been waiting for, for SEVEN whole months. It has seemed like a life time. I've almost finished packing and this time next week I'll be lying on a beach soaking up the sun in Mexico! And it's all thanks to the HOLIDAY HYPERMARKET in Wolverhampton!
Seven months ago my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to go on holiday. It was already June by this point and we realised that we wouldn't be able to go away that summer because we wouldn't have enough time to save. So we decided we would have a winter holiday instead. We wanted to go some where hot and realised it would have to be some where further away to guarantee the weather. I went into town the next day and picked up loads of brochures! We flicked though page after page, everywhere looked gorgeous we couldn't decide, so off we trotted to the Holiday Hypermarket.
My first opinion of the Holiday Hypermarket was the shear size of the shop it was huge!! We were greeted by a lady on the door who pointed us in the right direction and told us to take a ticket. Everyone has a number (a bit like at the meat counter in the supermarket) but there are two different sets of numbers. One set is for European holidays and the other is for far and away holidays. I thought this was a great idea and it definitely got the queue down quicker.
So we had our ticket and made our way over to the "FAR AND AWAY" area!
Basically the store is split up into two halves (far and away, and European) all the corresponding brochures etc are all in the specific sections, and believe you and me there were brochures galore!! Every imaginable place and every possible travel company had their brochure in this store.
So we chose a couple of brochures to look at while we were waiting to be seen. It wasn't long before I spotted a coffee machine and the all important snack machine! So I wondered over to have a look at the "Cafe Area".
It was then I spotted the "kiddies area" where there was a big American style car for them to play in and a video screen to keep them occupied.
I'd no sooner finished my coffee when our number was called out and we were greeted by a very friendly lady who introduced herself as SARAH.
She sat us down and asked us if we had any idea where we wanted to go. We knew we wanted to go further a field but knew know more than that. So she talked us through what we wanted from our holiday. Did we want it to be lively or quiet? Sunny or snowy? Did we want to go to the city or the coast? How far were we prepared to travel? Did we want long stretches of sandy white beach? What type of accommodation did we want to stay in? etc etc. She wrote down the answers to all our questions and came up with several possible destination to suite our needs and requirements.
Then out came the brochures, hundreds of them! She talked us through all the best resorts, the best hotels, the nightlife, the restaurants, the beaches, the weather basically everything possible.
We finally decided on Mexico. She had already recommended a hotel to us (The Moon Palace), which I must admit looked like something out of a film. It was gorgeous. Spas in the bedrooms, mini bar, ten restaurants, all inclusive, several pools, disco, Squash courts, beauty room, gym.... you name it, it was there!! And it didn't take long to decide that was the perfect place.
So she took all the details and came up with an amazing price for 10 nights in January! We booked straight away, and she went through any requirements we might have, extra leg room on the flights, over night airport accommodation, special meals, pre-book seats.
We came away feeling extremely excited and very well informed about our chosen destination.
Since we booked our holiday I had to speak to the Holiday Hypermarket to chase the tickets. I phoned the Customer Care Line which is an automated service but got to speak to someone very quickly. Again she was extremely helpful, she listened to my query and told me not too worry, they had already chased the tickets for me, and would continue to do so on a daily basis until they arrived She took my contact number and said she would keep in touch and let me know what was happening.
We are due to go to Mexico next week so I'll let you know what it's like!
(Since originally writing this review in January 2003 we have been to Mexico and had the time of our lives! But that's another review!!!)
Where Can You Find Holiday Hypermarket……..?
Holiday Hypermarket is part of the First Choice group. Between them they have over 300 stores nationwide. It would be totally impractical to list them all, so I suggest paying a visit to the Holiday Hypermarket website www.holidayhypermarket.co.uk and clicking on the link at the bottom of the home page "about us" which will then offer you a further link to the store locator. You can then type in your postcode or town/city and it will bring up the full address and telephone number of your nearest store.
What Tour Operators Do They Use.......?
As I have already mentioned Holiday Hypermarket do have a family relationship with First Choice they also sell holidays for the following tour operators: Airtours JMC Cosmos Sunset Virgin Libra Thomson Thomas Cook Manos Kuoni Club 2000 Travel Crystal Holidays
To name but a few!!!
How Can I Book My Holiday……..?
You have three options. You can either visit I local store like I did, where the friendly staff will trawl through the millions of different holidays and short breaks to find the best one for you, you can visit the website and search for yourself, or you can call 0800 916 5100 where one of their highly trained members of staff can answer any questions you might have and assist you in booking your perfect holiday.
What Else Can Holiday Hypermarket Arrange For Me…….?
Airport Parking- Holiday Hypermarket can arrange cheap, no hassle, secure airport parking at most commercial airports in the UK.
Transfers- Depending on the type of holiday you book, Holiday Hypermarket can either arrange a coach to transfer you to your accommodation or a taxi.
Airport Hotels- Lets be honest, flights are not always available at the best times of the day. But don't let that put you off! The Holiday Hypermarket work in conjunction with many hotels near to the UK's most popular airports. They can arrange rooms for you so that early or late flights or long drives need not be a problem any more.
Airport Lounges- Why not start as you mean to go on! Extend your holiday a little buy booking into an airport lounge! Again Holiday Hypermarket can arrange this for you at most UK airports. Hot and cold drinks and reading materials are provided, perfect for the nervous flyer if you ask me.
Ok so you have heard me rant on about my experience at booking a holiday with Holiday Hypermarket. You know where to find them and how to book. You know what tour operators they use and the extras you can add on to make your holiday even more special, but what about price I hear you cry!! Well as I write this updated review (16.04.06) here are a few of the offers they have on their website. I think you will agree…. They won't be beaten on price!!!

Advantages: Choice and Comfort Disadvantages: Their own interest at heart
...have booked four holidays with Holiday Hypermarket over the last five years.
Their shop in Edinburgh is huge, attractive and comfortable. There are plenty of seating areas, with vending machines, where you can pour over the squillions of brochures in unhassled comfort.
For any one destination you could have 5 plus brochures to choose from, as opposed to 1 or 2 in other travel shops. I've always found the staff friendly and helpful to a point!
... ...popped along excitedly to the Holiday Hypermarket.
We explained our needs ie. one of two resorts, but definately somewhere quiet. The young girl typed all the info into the computer and kept coming back with holidays in busier resorts. I was watching what she was doing on the screen and asked her several times if she had checked ALL the tour operators. She said she had. It was then that I noticed that all the options she was giving us were for First ...

Advantages: Lower priced holidays Disadvantages: Poor telephone system and telephone manners
Holiday Hypermarket is possibly the worst travel agency I have had dealings with.
I am in the travel trade industry and, as part of my job, I have to deal with many travel agencies on a daily basis.
From the outset of making a phone call to them, you are bombarded with “please press 1 for, 2 for” etc. Then, just when you think you have done it and managed to get through, the patronising recorded male voice says, “please call 08721…”
... ...to at least SOUND happy and enthusiastic. From reading other people’s opinions on this company, I gather that the product knowledge of the staff at Holiday Hypermarket is very good and the holidays themselves are reasonably priced. What a shame their telephone manners let them down. ...

Advantages: friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, cheap, personalised service Disadvantages: you can only call the croydon branch once you have made a booking otherwise you end up ringing telesales -which i would avoid at all costs!if you visit on a weekend you need to be prepared to wait to be served as it seems to be so popular.
...say how good i found holiday hypermarket,in croydon(valley park industrial estate ,by ikea).I wanted to go on a good cheap lastminute holiday to florida(Orlando specifically), and i dealt with a guy in the worldwide department .The store is really large but the people are really friendly and one guy was really knowledgeable .(Theo was his name cos i remember it was the same name as mine!so that put me in a good mood for starters!as its not a common ... ...telesales department and you avoid the bad experiences of the phone system from what i have heard from other colleagues....so avoid their telesales department!.If you want a holiday find a branch that you can visit in person ,but dont book over the phone as you will probably end up frustrated! ...

Advantages: Very helpful, nice staff Disadvantages: none
...Anyway, i deserve a holiday (i think) so on thursday night, i hotfooted it up to the holiday hypermarket in Edinburgh, 30 minutes before it closed to have a quick look, with the thought to maybe come and book something at the weekend.
Inside the place is superb. Looks like a mini disneyland with all the bits anf bobs, french cafe style waiting room, bates motel with the musci to go. Nice.
I have never met such friendly people. The staff went far ... ...they found us a perfect holiday and then when we came to pay, my flatmates card was declined and i had not brought mine. They cant keep holidays open for people at the last minute, but they did. As long as we were there the next morning at 9am we could have it. They stayed open for an extra 20 minutes to try to help us. And they didnt seem to mind at all. So helpful and kind.
And we were. But the girl who had served us, Kerry-Ann, had phoned in ...

...and myself recently booked a holiday to Majorca which is booked for July. Not being much of an expert at booking holidays (as I have only been abroad once before) I needed all the help that I could get.
We arrived at the Holiday Hypermarket in Southampton around 5.30 pm and immediately were offered help. We gave the lady a list of places that we were interested in and also our overall budget.
This information was then input into their computer ... ...us and we were then advised of travel insurance and any others services that they offered.
If I were to book a holiday again I would definately choose the holiday hypermarket to help.
(I will update my review though after my holiday in the first week of July) ...

Advantages: excellent service cheap Disadvantages: caused rushed packing and shopping!
Within 32 hours of my boyfriend returning from Germany i had dragged him to Ibiza! All thanks to First Choice HolidayHypermarket at rotherham.
We decided to book a very last minute holiday to Ibiza and tried Thomas cook. They found one suitable holiday at £800 each. We took the details to First Choice and they said they would do it better.
It was not what we had really wanted and not in our location choice.
First choice searched for us and within a matter of minutes they found 7nights in Playa D'en Bossa at a Thompson exclusive hotel just under £400each. They threw in travel insurance for free and this included all the transfers etc. They also did our holiday money for the same price as marks and spencer.
This was my first time with first choice but will not be my last! ...

Advantages: A great selection of shops, free parking Disadvantages: Doesn't have any designer stores
're bound to get a good bargain from Oasis and DP's. They always have a £5 bargain rail. I brought a pair of plain black wedges for £5 from Oasis last Saturday.
There is just one Travel agents here that's the HolidayHypermarket, which seem to have some great holiday offers in the window!
After all that shopping your going to need replenishing.
There are a few restaurants here all in one place in the corner of the shopping strip. The toilets are situated here as well and they have a mother and baby room too. There is the popular Burger King which is often filled with children on a Saturday afternoon. For a treat go to Drucker's and eat a chocolate éclair!
There is a pub if things are that bad called the Mill House which also do good pub grub for reasonalbe prices.
So if your in the West Midlands area and you fancy doing a bit ...

Advantages: Great choice for you and your family or friends. Disadvantages: Can be pricey and walks between are uncovered so bad weather can leave your dancin shoes a tad wet!
The Coliseum is the sister to The Outlet Village.Situated right next door you can't miss it if you're gonna go there. But go there you should. As well as some larger stores such as Argos,Bookers,The HolidayHypermarket and Dixons there are also some excellent places to eat.Go there day or night and you should get a table at any of the restaurants. These include Bella Pasta,Italian, obviously but they have some nice twists here.I used it only last week and it was the first time I had seen sliced duck breast on a pizza. But they also do lots of things with sea-food and the lay-out allows you to see the chefs at work in all there "flaming" glory.Of course there are all the regular favourites too.Drinks are in bottles only but not too badly priced.A great place to enjoy a family/friends meal.
