Summary

This is a well priced and family friendly hotel, ideally located for easy access to North Wales, and an ideal stop off for any holiday in Wales.

I stayed at this hotel for one night in October 2009.

The Hotel

The hotel is just off the A55 about halfway between Chester and Llandudno. The hotel is only accessible from the A55 westbound, and you have to travel to the next junction to travel back to England, which is slightly inconvenient unless you are travelling on further into Wales.

The hotel is spread over three floors. There is a small reception area as you enter the hotel. There is a bar and restaurant to the right of the reception desk. The staff who assisted me on check in were a little colder than the normal Holiday Inn staff, but were not rude.

The hotel does not have a pool, but it does offer a gym on the second floor. I did not use it so cannot comment on the facilities offered in the gym, but access to it is offered free of charge.

The Rooms

I stayed in a ground floor standard double room which looked out over the car park and A55. Even though the room overlooked the road, I could not hear the traffic outside.

The room was a good size and was clean. There was an ironing board, tea and coffe making facilities, an alarm clock and a TV. The TV offered a good range of channels including Sky Movies Comedy, but there was no facility for paid for movies. There was a desk and a chair, two sitting chairs, a coffee table and a bed, which was comfortable.

The bathroom wasclean and included a shower /bath. There are dispensers on the wall next to the sink and over the bath/shower which have a hand/body/hair soap, but no other toiletries were provided.

Internet Access

The hotel offers free Wi-Fi internet access in each room. This is very reasonable given that some Holiday Inn hotels charge up to £15.00 per day for cabled internet access.

Price

I stayed at the hotel free of charge because of a promotion offered by Holiday Inn earlier in the year. However, on checking the standard room prices I noted that the hotel is reasonably priced for the Holiday Inn brand. I always recommend checking the internet, Teletext or national press for special offers for Holiday Inn hotels.

The Bar/Restaurant

The bar and restaurant are not owned or operated by Holiday Inn, but the staff were extremely efficient and very friendly, and the areas were very clean. The restaurant is in a conservatory type structure which is lovely in the early evening, but there wasn't much of a view. The bar is open throughout the day and offers a wide selection of snacks and hot food.

I ate dinner in the restaurant. The menu offered a wide range of food, which was available either in the restaurant or in your rooms (for no additional charge). The menu included a number of offers including an all you can eat curry buffet or carvery buffet, but I later found out that these are usually only offered Monday to Thursday. I had a mixed platter for my starter which included ribs, potato wedges, deep fried mozzerella and onion bahjis with a selection of dips. I had a main of lamb curry which was clearly home made and was delicious. The meal came to about £16.00 without drinks, which I think is reasonable for a restaurant in a Holiday Inn.

Parking and Connections

The hotel offers free parking and there were plenty of parking spaces. At night the car park is well lit and feels secure.

There is a McDonalds across the car park, along with a Costa Coffee, Subway, OK Diner and a petrol garage - so there are lots of eating options if you don't want to eat in the hotel.

As mentioned above, the hotel feeds back onto the westbound A55 and so you have to go up to the next junction to turn around if you wanted to go to Chester. However, if you are travelling further into Wales, this is ideal.

Decor

The only key negative point with the hotel was that some of the decor was a little dated. It is clear that the hotel was operated as an independent hotel before it became a Holiday Inn, and so the bathroom in the room was a little old fashioned. The public toilets in the bar were also dated. The corridors were a little dim with a slightly dated carpet and were very narrow. These factors did not affect my enjoyment of the hotel stay, but do stand out when compared with other Holiday Inn hotels.
