Basildon was one of several New Towns built up after World War Two to cater for displacement and overspill from Londons populus. Today it is a mass of concrete and roads offering a range of accomodation to those daft enough to want to live there.
It does have in its favour a large shopping complex and market, but these are probably the only things going for the town regarded by many as the Backside of Essex.
Located just of the A127 road in south east Essex it nestles between Grays Thurrock and Southend.
As a tourist attraction it scores 0/10
As a place to live it scores 0/10 (yes I did live there briefly)
Shopping scores 5/10
There are certainly much nicer places to visit and live in Essex. ...

, bath foam/shower gel and body cream, a shower cap, nail file, sewing kit and shoe shine.
The main feature of the rooms is that they include wooden shutters instead of curtains which are extremely effective at blacking out the room.
Internet Access
High-speed Internet access is available in all rooms. It costs £14.99 for 24 hours or £75.00 for a week.
Price
The hotel can be very expensive if you just turn up and ask for a room so it is best to pre-book or keep an eye out for the many deals that HolidayInn offers on its website or in the national press. I usually pay between £50 and £75 per room per night which includes a substantial breakfast, although the hotel regularly offers a deal over a weekend where you get two nights bed and breakfast and one dinner for two people for approximately £99 per room per night.
