Holiday Inn Express Berlin-Anhalter Bahnhof

Advantages: central location, excellent beer, friendly staff, clean and modern
Disadvantages: no leisure facilities

We stayed at for a week in December 2005, for a Christmas shopping break. We stayed in a double room, Bed and Breakfast. The hotel is in a central location a 5min walk to the nearest S-Bahn station which is Anhalter Bahnof Its walking distance to Potsdamer Platz where in the winter is a Christmas market with mulled wine, hot dogs, lots of craft stalls, shopping centre, the Sony centre and a snow slide (where you slide down a slope in an inflatable ring) We booked the hotel direct on the Holiday Inn website a week or so before hand - the member of staff I spoke to was very helpful. The hotel was clean and modern - it must has only been built in the last few years. reception staff were friendly and everyone spoke good English. The hotel has a bar some vending machines - but no leisure facilities. The room was not large but ...

getting spoiled at Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz, Berlin

Advantages: great position of the hotel, great service
Disadvantages: none that I can think of

I stayed at this hotel for two nights ( 24-25 May 2009 ) when I went to Berlin for The Simply Red concert at O2 Arena and I loved it . It situated in the center of East Berlin near the Television Tower ( witch many argue that is even higher that The Eiffel Tour from Paris) and a short walk from The Brandenburg Gate ( witch is one of the main symbols of Berlin and Germany ). If you are a shopaholic, then you are definitely going to appreciate the Alexia Mall that is just in front of the hotel. The hotel is also 20 minutes away from the O2 Arena and 5 minutes away from a modern train station , a great way to travel rapidly through Berlin. Did I mention that Park Inn Berlin is a 37 floors building? :) Is one of the highest buildings in that area and you have a restaurant at the last floor where you can go anytime and take pictures ...

Berlin! Berlin!

Advantages: Germany's capital and most interesting city
Disadvantages: a bit too large, distances too long

the West and the Brandenburger Tor in the East, a double line of granite stones in the asphalt shows where the Wall was, all tourists want to know, understandably the Berliners are not so keen. The area in front of it (on the western side) is the place where Berliners meet for spontaneous manifestations or outdoor parties, when I was there this year at the beginning of October, Coca Cola was organising a gigantic spectacle on the 2nd and 3rd October with live bands, 500.000 spectators were expected. October 3rd is the national holiday commemorating reunification, nice to see that it was celebrated with music and not speeches. Standing in front of the Brandenburger Tor we turn to the right and walk down the street for about 200m until we come to the much debated Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe which was opened to the public in 2005 ...
