With Holiday Inn you can pretty much guarantee a standard kind of accommodation. I have always found them to be pleasant and really enjoy staying with the chain. However this hotel was really particularly pleasant. The breakfast is wonderful as it operates the briliant facility of 'all you can (or 'want to' if you must!) eat' - you can get your money's worth and pile it good and high. No need to stop for lunch then! Be warned though, if you cannot make it up in time for the help-yourself brekkie (service runs 6.30am to 10.30am usually I believe), it is not like this if you opt for the room service option at breakfast time - you only get a small amount. One piece of toast. I like to have loads. But I guess there's only so much you can fit on the one tray!
Anyway the location is not so good as it is not entirely central. You have to walk ten minutes to get into the bustley city centre. However it's not too bad and pretty swiftly you can get there on foot. It is not great looking when you step out the door either, quite industrial around the nearby streets, in fact it was a bit grotty. But it is inside that really counts and I can vouch for this hotel that it is lovely inside!
It is all very clean and pleasantly decorated. Lots of bright friendly colours, blues, yellows, oranges: very cheering. The staff were also really helpful when I visited, smiling and polite, in fact I have been here twice and would happily go again and again. The second time I stayed we had an executive room and wow it was worth it! We had an absolutely enormous room with lovely furniture. The best bit was the gigantic bed this must have been seven feet wide - a super king - which is important if you want a decent amount of space to spread out with your partner. The only tiny negative was what appeared to be a few cigarette burns in the super soft, light moss green blanket. But we could over look that - it seems a petty gripe set against the glory of the bed itself and the general room! Actually it was no smoking in the hotel we were told by the signs, so they must have been from a long time and many washes ago. Indeed, it was all clean and fresh smelling.
We also had a seating area, big satellite TV, tables, extra lounge chair, patio doors onto what we thought was a roof terrace with wonderful views out onto the city - this turned out to actually be a fire exit when we enquired(!) but no matter, it was private to our room, and true it didn't have any furniture but the views were spectacular and you could always take the chairs out!
Another point about the beds in general was that the beds in the normal twin room that our friends were staying in were both doubles too. Not as enormous as our King but plenty spacious! So they are very generous with beds and space it seems.
The bathroom were very well equipped, standard toiletries in the normal room but the executive room (more like a suite) has posh body lotions, sewing kits, conditioners etc. in addition. Also there were nice big sparkling white towels with celtic linen written on. Made me feel that bit more in touch with the Irish spirit. Dressing gown and slippers in the wardrobe too - fab!
I would definitely stay there again this is a no nonsence hotel where you can be sure of good value, very good food (lots of it too) and decent service. I have always had a lovely break with Holiday Inn and I love the anonymity of it being a large chain. This Dublin hotel is very big, comfy and clean and I found it understatedly plush. Great value.
