On a trip to Dusseldorf earlier this year, I'd enjoyed the luxury of a night in the Sheraton at DusseldorfAirport, then taken the train up to Bremen before returning back once again to Dusseldorf. Since I was on my own this time and trying to save a few pennies, I'd resorted to the cheaper but less convenient option of the HolidayInnDusseldorfAirportRatingen.
That's quite a mouthful of a name and enough to get me a very patronising lecture from the taxi driver about how flughafen meant airport (like I didn't know - duh) and Ratingen was somewhere else entirely. I'd had a long day and a long train journey and I was feeling snappy "Do you know this hotel or don't you?" I asked as he continued his lecture, and reassured that he did, I shut up and sat back for the 10 minute journey for which he happily charged me a ridiculous 12 ...
Advantages: So close that you can almost feel the breeze as the planes come in to land Disadvantages: It's more expensive than the more distant airport hotels
When is an airport hotel not really an airport hotel?
I have spent a stupid amount of time in airport hotels in the past year and have learned that the term 'airport hotel' can be very misleading. Some, like the Sheraton DusseldorfAirport really are right at the airport whilst many can be a 10-15 minute cab ride away. As for shuttle busses that take you almost an hour to get from the hotel to the airport, there are far too many of those knocking about. My advice - for what it's worth - is to make sure you know exactly what you are getting when you book an airport hotel. A good price can be spoiled by discovering that the shuttle bus only goes once an hour and a taxi can cost you half the room rate just to get there. The Sheraton at Dusseldorfairport is exactly the best kind of airport hotel

HolidayInn Express at Glasgow Airport.
Me and my girlfriend booked this hotel 3 weeks before hand and got a great rate of £55 for one night including full breakfast.We got the free airport bus from buchan bus station which takes to outside the main terminal at the airport .When we arrived we were amazed at how close it was actually to the main terminal of Glasgow Airport less than 2 minutes which was very handy for our morning departure.We checked in around 1630 and were told in detail the facility's , restaurant opening times , breakfast times and all check out details by two friendly staff receptionists one lady also helped us with the masses of luggage we had to the room.
We were surprised with the quality of the hotel with it just being a budget hotel the entrance to the hotel resembles the same look in decor as any 4 or 5 star ...
