We stayed at for a week in December 2005, for a Christmas shopping break. We stayed in a double room, Bed and Breakfast.
The hotel is in a central location a 5min walk to the nearest S-Bahn station which is Anhalter Bahnof
Its walking distance to Potsdamer Platz where in the winter is a Christmas market with mulled wine, hot dogs, lots of craft stalls, shopping centre, the Sony centre and a snow slide (where you slide down a slope in an inflatable ring)
We booked the hotel direct on the Holiday Inn website a week or so before hand - the member of staff I spoke to was very helpful.
The hotel was clean and modern - it must has only been built in the last few years. reception staff were friendly and everyone spoke good English. The hotel has a bar some vending machines - but no leisure facilities.
The room was not large but as big as you would expect in a capital city. contained double bed, sofa bed, Sat TV, tea and coffee making facilities. The bath room had a large shower, sink and toilet with an excellent water saving flush - which stops flushing when you let go (they have them everywhere in Berlin but this was the first one we came across) Everything was well maintained and very clean - we felt like we were the first people to ever stay in the room.
Continental Breakfast included in the price, a buffet of toast, bread rolls, croissants, muffins, boiled eggs, cold cuts of meat (very German) cheese, Jams, Nutella, Kellogg's cereals, teas, coffees, orange juice - and a multi vitamin juice drink (which looks like OJ but tastes like tablets)
In the evening the bar is pretty quiet, but nice for a swift beer before heading out in the town - the beer is excellent.
Everywhere we went everyone could speak very good English the S-Bahn and U-Bahn network is very easy to understand - You buy a ticket on the platform and get on the train - instructions are available in English on the machines - press the union jack flag. Don't be tempted to not buy a ticket as plain clothes police appear in the carriages and check tickets.
By the way - if you visit Berlin in the winter - a good coat, hats, scarf and gloves are a must - it is very cold.
Overall this hotel is excellent for the business on leisure user - with central location, excellent beer, clean and modern.
