So you've tried it slow, what's it like when it's quicker?................
Well me and 'er indoors decide to go to Edinburgh this weekend, she traveled up from sunny Brighton to Leicester where we flew from East Midlands Airport after securing cheap flight with bmi british midland for only £54 return, whilst booking the flight with expedia.co.uk I saw an ad for Holiday Inn Express and thought I'd check out their prices. I like Holiday Inn's anyway but found the rooms in the city itself a bit too pricey this time, anyway this is my review of the accommodation less the raunchy parts!... = HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS - EDINBURGH, LEITH =======
Location:~ All though on the website it is advertised as city, it is slightly on the outskirts, it is situated on a new development on the quayside in a area of Edinburgh called Leith, the hotel overlooks the new quayside building called Queens Terminal which is also handy for visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia which is moored just around the corner. The main city itself such as Princess Street or 'The Golden Mile' is approximately about 30-45 minutes walk away from the hotel, by bus no.22 which stops outside the hotel and runs every 10 minutes during the day costs about 80p,the bus will drop you on Princess St. and takes about 15mins. From the airport it is about 10-13miles away and a taxi there cost me £15 + £5 tip, so it's not too bad.
Check-In:~ Check in is about as normal as any other hotel, except due to no restaurant for evening meals the staff let you know that they have a list of local restaurants which will deliver and the hotel will provide you plates etc...
Room:~ The room itself was better than we expected, it contained an en-suite bathroom with power shower but no bath, towels and soap & shampoo in dispensers. The room was brightly decorated in light pastel colours and very art noveau wall and uplighters, along with Tea/Coffee machine, Cable TV, Hair Dryer and wardrobe. Also in the room were a guide to local attractions and guide to hotel facilities.
Hotel Facilites:~ Although billed as plain and simple the hotel we were in offered the following ~ Licensed Bar / Lounge ~ Satellite TV ~ Meeting Rooms ~ Free Continental Breakfast I must say the breakfast although free was very substantial offering Tea/Coffee,Fresh Fruit,Cereals,Yoghurt,Toast,Croissants and Muffins it was rather busy at breakfast but the staff kept things replenished and looking fresh. This was eaten in the lounge area, which was arranged with tables, if needed.
Prices:~ I booked this on the Internet and paid £58 incVAT per night for the room, I found this quite reasonable compared to Travel Inn and other budget hotels in the same league, etc Travel Inn £62.95 that was located nearer the city but no extras as above.
Booking Info:~ Visit http://www.hiexpress.co.uk or freephone 0800 40 50 60 You can also earn Priority Points staying here as it is part of the same group. (Membership reward scheme)
I would certainly recommend these!!

Phil

May be an idea if these ops were in the category for the location rather than the chain, I stayed in the one at the bottom of Kempas Highway in Coventry before our flight and it was b****y appalling, dirty, things were broken and the booking was totally wrong, I supposedly had superior treatment as a Priority Club Member, god help those that weren't.

Good op, I've stayed in many Express by HI hotels and on the whole they are kept to the same high standard, on the few occasions I have complained ( Usually niggley things) my problems have been sorted out there and then. I would recommend this chain above all others in the UK at this time.
