Invited to a concert at Manchester MEN I started an eleventh hour search for a hotel room eventually securing a room at the Express by Holiday Inn.

Manchester City Centre. Ideally placed for visits to Old Trafford, for football and cricket, and the Manchester Evenings News Arena for all the big shows and concerts.

Free outdoor car parking. The Bandstand restaurant is a family pub adjacent to the hotel serving meals from 12noon till 9pm. Children up to 18 stay free when sharing parents room. Colour TV with satellite channels and in-room movies, direct dial telephone, wireless internet access and computer point in all the rooms, power shower and hairdryer. Tea and coffee making facilites.

historic city of York. We are only two & a half miles from the City Centre, where you can see all of the many local attractions including York Dungeons, Jorvik Centre, Castle Museum, National Railway Museum and of course the York Minster.

Despite calling me Fiona on the phone and having me spell out my full name when they took my debit card details the e-mail confirmation bore a different initial. No problems I thought, I have driving lisence and anyway my card details can be checked.
I set off from home for the six hour journey and all went well until I was within spitting distance and then I got lost, very lost! ... ...as you would expect from Holiday Inn. I thought it was pricey for what we got, I paid £89 and to be fair it wasn't very different from a travel lodge or premier inn. Would I stay there again? Hmmm, I guess if there was no comparable but cheaper alternatives. A resounding OK is how I'd sum up the experience. ...

** Booking **
I booked on-line, due to my work, I travel a lot, and always stay in the Holiday Inn chain, so I am a member of their Priority Club, which gives points for stays.
This stay was basically free, because I used my points. The on-line booking process is really easy, and took about 2 minutes.
** Getting there **
The directions given on the web site are really easy to follow, with ... ...and shampoo, and it the Holiday Inn policy that if you have forgotten anything, such as a toothbrush, they will give you one free!
They are also heavily into the environmental thing, so if you stay for any length of time, they ask you to hang the towels up, if you want them changed, then leave them on the floor!
If you have a baby, they can supply cots as well! For no extra charge

I stayed at the Tulip Inn (Trafford Centre) early in August as the Arctic Monkeys were playing at Lancashire Cricket Ground.
When we arrived the car park was quite full but had plenty of spaces, even though the hotel very obviously very busy.
