I stayed a few nights at the holiday inn express in Manchester as i got a good deal under the companies priority points program - recommend to register - you get some great hotels.

It is situated in Salford Quays, the business and up and coming district of Manchester. It is located between a couple of business down on the waterfront. It overlooks the famous Lowry Outlet centre, the Salford Rowing Club and the Travel Inn.

About a stones throw away is some ideal restaurants and bar - for that easy relaxing night out without having to go to far. Located in the lowry centre is a cinema - which is about a 15 minute walk along the waterfront.Restaurant Wise you have:

• Chiquitos (mexican)
• Arbuckles (american)
• Hanrahans (pub grub)
  There is another, but the name has been misplaced from my head - it will come back to me im sure.

It is also situated close to a Metro Stop for the cities tram link - this takes you directly into Manchester City centre and it runs to about midnight most nights. Cost is approx £1 rtn depending where you are going from and to.Getting back to the hotel. It is rather stylish and spacious and openplan on the ground floor, as well as being compact. It houses the bar, reception and breakfast area. Due to it being an express hotel, you only get continental breakfast - toast, cereal etc.

It has about 5 - 6 floors and you have a choice of non-smoking or smoking rooms. The rooms are ideal.

I got a double room when i went - it had:

• Spacious double bed
• Sofa Bed
• TV (usual channels and pay per view)
• Small Wardrobe
• Spacious Shower Room with cut off toilet, if anyone wanted to use the shower while someone else wanted to use the toilet - quite a novel idea really.

It is reasonably priced for the location and views that you get. I would much recommend a hotel in Salford Quays rather than the city. You don't get the hustle and bustle and it is close enough to the city (due to the tram link) for shopping trips and nights out.
