Holiday Inn Express Newcastle City Centre, Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Advantages: Helpful staff, good facilities, large comfy rooms
Disadvantages: A little bit far away from the city centre.

...My weekends away with the girlies always have to be cheap affairs, so we usually end up staying in some dodgy B&B on Brighton seafront or the back roads of Great Yarmouth, but when I was booking our trip to Newcastle, I stumbled upon the Holiday Inn website, and bagged us a right bargain! The price We booked on the Internet a standard double room, which slept up to 4 people in 2 double beds. The cost of this room per night was £54.50. Which works out to about £14.00 each per night! Cheaper than most B&B's! When we arrived at the Holiday Inn though, the price of this room was advertised as £155.00 per room per night. We queried this, and were told that our rate was the Internet rate, and as such we saved £100.00 per night! So please, if any of you ever need to book a Holiday Inn, do so on the Internet and save yourself... Read review

Advantages: Location. very reasonable
Disadvantages: Awful food, tired rooms, noisy, hot / cold

...As a business traveller to Newcastle I booked this hotel for two reasons. 1) It is about 5 minutes walk away from the station - particularly useful in the winter as those arctic winds sweep through Newcastle like no mans business! 2) It is right next door to my firms office so obviously means no taxis in the morning. Sounds great so far and I would fully agree location is great. HOWEVER The hotel is large and clearly used for hen and stag weekends to a massive extent. The decor reminded me of a boarding school or a hospital - tired and slightly beaten up. There are signs everywhere warning you that if you trash the rooms you will be charged a deposit and there are bouncers on the door on a Friday and Saturday night, so probably not the best place to go for a romantic weekend with your other half. ...On my trips to Leeds I always book into the Holiday Inn Express, chiefly because it is the closest hotel to where I need to be. Within this review I refer to my last experience of staying there about 10 months ago. Outside the building doesn't look too attractive, and the entrance is a bit basic with its blue doors and plants. However, when you make your way through the doors, the lobby is much more impressive. As I approached the counter to sign in, I was greeted by a member of the staff politely within a few seconds. I had already booked so it was just a matter of signing the piece of paper and taking my key card for my room. I was on the 6th of its 7 floors and being rather lazy, decided to take one of the 2 lifts they have. The corridor I travelled down to my room is rather luxurious, and lacks the certain cheap and tacky... Read review
