If you want a place to stay, that's cheap and in fishermans wharf then this is the place for you!
I went their with my 7 year old daughter at the time, we rolled up to the main reception of the holiday inn (nice building), but on getting our room keys we were told to cross the road to the Express building (carried mine and my daughters bags - no offers of help at all!) On walking around the building, crossing the street and entering the other building you walk through a dennys (handy ) which is inside the reception area of sorts (The entrance is the same as dennys, however the walkway does allow you to go staright past the restaurant to the lifts) - I found this daunting as anyone can use dennys and walk staright to the lifts (all on the ground floor). On going up in the lifts - not at first obvious where to go as I had no instructions from the original check in desk - but friendly guest pointed me in the right direction. Thankfully I found my room, however on closing my door, one thing stood out that scared me a bit - the door had double locks and a chain. All I could think of was why, do people try and break in - this thought stayed with me when in the hotel. Also on leaving, I worried about leaving things in the room. One night we had a snack in dennys and sat behind us was a drunken tramp, drinking beer, I didn't feel happy there, even more so thinking all he had to do was walk 12 foot to get to the lifts!! The room itself though was big, two double beds, large bathroom with shower and bath, 2 sinks, and lots of "cheap" bathroom products. Had a TV small fridge and kettle. On the downside windows where top to bottom and very thin, traffic could be heard at times, and most of movement in the corridor could be heard from the room. So room was OK if you stayed there as little as possible, however I didn't feel safe there. On the plus side you could walk around the corner and you were on fishermans wharf - which was brilliant. Fantastic location, accomdation adequate. Just need to weigh up which you prefer. If I went again, I'd make sure I was in the main building, because I loved the location. :)

Just to stress this opinion is of a single mum, staying in this hotel. And the bag carrying thing - happy to carry my own however we arrived with a couple and they stayed in the main building (paid the same price as me!) and got their bags carried upstairs - while I had to lug mine over the road. Just annoyed me a little - well alot at the time lol :)
And I've stayed in basic accomodation before, and had a great time, also stayed in a few Holiday Inns, but this one was the only one I didn't feel safe in - Imagine one of those dodgy thrillers, where you have two cops looking for a suspect in a dodgy apartment building somewhere random in America (you must have seen one of those movies!) Well getting back to the point that's how the lift and corridors seemed, dated, old, but generally clean. Well if you lived somewhere like that you'd want loads of security, The double lock and chain I've mentioned above, well from the inside it had the standard key lock near the centre, about 15cm above it it had another lock and 10 cm below another one (throw in the chain as well hey presto!!) So the overkill on the safety was good to have - however all that went through my head was "Why so much" hence the constant fear of someone breaking in was never far from my mind.
And just to mention again the bathroom was big!
If I went there with another adult I would have enjoyed it - but probably still have complained about the noise though lol, however if your not in the main building (where I thought I was going) I wouldn't recommend it for single parents - unless you have an over 18 large son lol :)
