This hotel was one of the hotels my airline chose for it's airline crew to stay in, most likely because it is opposite the airport so you can't get any better than that! I had the pleasure to stay here on a 2-day trip earlier this year. I got to go on the most exotic trips, other crew got a week in the Maldives and I got Glasgow. You can't say being an air hostess isn't glamorous.

First impressions:
From the outside it looks like a typical 1970's concrete hotel block. Holiday Inn is clearly marked in large green writing on the top. All in all, a pretty standard airport hotel. Walking in to the lobby I was pleasantly surprised to see a low ceiling, cream coloured paint and a red tartan carpet. When I arrived it was a very cold evening so it was nice to walk into a bright, warm lobby.

Checking In:
Checking in was very quick and easy, I was given my key card and away I went in the lift up to the 7th Floor. Being crew you do sometimes have some issues with the hotel not having you down as crew and expecting you to pay!

My room:
Quite small with 2 single beds, I presume that it was cheaper for the airline this way! It was an Executive Room though and I wasn't sure if I was upgraded or if the airline paid more. The bed was very comfy with crisp white sheets and pillows and a blue throw and I had my own soft white bathrobe and slippers which I felt were a nice touch. It had the usual television, wardrobe, tables and chair that you always get. I was glad to see a kettle and this was accompanied by Typhoo teabags, Nescafe and Galaxy hot chocolate sachets, biscuits and more unusually, a Mars bar! These were replenished every day! There was a mini bar as well, perfect for a G&T after a long flight.

The bathroom:
Bright, white and clean. The floor was tiled and there was a bath combined with a fantastic power shower. There were the usual free toiletries-shampoo, conditioner, body moisturiser and a little sewing kit. Fluffy white towels were provided too and I was happy to see that there were plenty of them, sometimes hotels do tend to only give you a couple of small towels.

Cleanliness:
I was impressed by the state of the room and it was tidied up every day, my bed was made too.

Eating:
Breakfast was served between 06.00 - 1030 but I was far too lazy to venture downstairs and had a nice Continental room service breakfast bought up to me on a trolley. One night I also ordered a chips and cheese bowl, I think the employee on the other end was a bit bemused (she wasn't from the UK) but it arrived 30 minutes later on a tray lined with a napkin, silver cutlery and plenty of mayonnaise and was actually really tasty! (I needed comfort food!)

The staff:
I found all the employees to be polite and helpful and the reception staff were smartly dressed in dark suits.

Other facilities:
There was a Complimentary Offsite Fitness Facility but I didn't venture to this as a prefer hotels to have gyms onsite. A swimming pool would have been appreciated though.

Room rates
Obviously I wasn't paying but I did check out the rates. Booking directly with the Holiday Inn you can expect to pay £120! Or you could shop around and pay around £60.

The bottom line:
A fine hotel, perfect for an overnight stay to catch that early flight
