I stayed in this hotel in August 07, it had only been open for about 6 weeks so everything new, chose this hotel as it was advertised as being next dor to Chessington world of Adventures (where we were spending the day) plus it had a swimming pool, offered playstations in the rooms (we didn't have one, hotel said there was a problem with network!) plus with it being rated 4* I expected the food to be very good as experienced in other hotels of this type abroad. I have stayed in many of of this type of hotel both in the UK & abroad & I have to say there is room for improvement. The room cost £100 per night (they do have some good rates at the moment from £50pn Nov 07) so a little more expensive than others in the near vicinity but I opted for this one as it had a swimming pool (thought it would entertain my 5 year old in the
evening if he got bored) we didn't actually use the pool in the end. Pre booked the room on the net and waited in reception, only one clerk on the desk & the gentleman in front of me took 15 minutes (no-one came in the meantime to assist me! so wouldn't have liked the place to be busy) the lobby is very modern, clean & spacious so the first visual impression is very good, lifts & wide doors make the place accessible. They have well equiped rooms with flatscreen TV, phone, hairdryer, kettle & complementary Tea/coffee/chocolate & the option of a mini bar, internet access & movies. Fot an additional fee of £21pn yu can have full unlimited access to all movies/channels/internet though they are accessed via TV so you can't watch movie & browse the net. The rooms are modern faux brown leather decor ie large mirrors etc, plenty of storage & are larger than average with both an area for the beds & sitting area, the furniture is adequate & the beds are extremely comfortable, the bathrooms have a larger than average shower & are spacious & clean (no complementary toiletries). There is a restaurant where they serve breakfasts & meals throughout the day, I ordered room service for evening meal, the menu stated that children eat free with full paying adult however I was told that I had to pay as the advertised details were incorrect & this was only the case if you ate in the restaurant obviously I disputed this fact & did get a refund. A 3 course meal minus drinks works out approx. £20-£25 and t be honest it was less than desirable certainly not what I expect from top chefs working in such a high rated establishment, I had chicken with avocado & salad as a main meal my son had home-made fish fingers & chips, the chips were over cooked (burnt) and my chicken avocado salad was so drenched in dressing that the salad & avocado had gone to mush (inedible), I had also requested plain vanilla ice cream for my son and ended up with a multi flavoured variety that my son wouldn't eat however my fresh fruit salad platter was very fresh & delicious, very disappointing. I had put out one of the requests for breakfast service in our rom but this was totally ignored & not collected by the appropriate service staff dispite being put out at 8pm the previous evening, it was still there gone 9am the following day thus our request was not met. I called reception regarding this matter in which case the clerk apologised & said she would sort it out she didn't! when I mentioned it upon checkout she just said oh didn't anyone come! I didn't get a refund for the food only the childs meal hich as advertised as free anyway & I was not compensated for the very poor service with regard to breakfast order, good job I was not on business as I would not have received an early call or breakfast at the time requested!!! This hotel is supposed to be more family orientated with it being next to Chessington World of Adventures but it isn't child friendly at all the atmosphere is very much more on the basis of business rather than relaxed with children running around (or any noise at all), having fun, people with children I would definitely recommend you take them somewhere else especially if your children are lively! My stay was very disappointing due to the quality of food & service however the rooms were really great. Stay at £50pn but not at £100pn!!! The hotel needs to sort out it's printed advertising, make the hotel more family orientated, ensure that the food is being quality checked plus ensure that the staff are doing their jobs properly & ensure enough staff are working the front desk, the hotel was so not busy I would hate to see how they would cope with full occupancy!
