I stay at this hotel quite often, on business, as the company I work for has a branch office close by. I am partial to the chain (if only to keep my loyalty club points in once place for maximum efficiency) although quality can vary significantly from one property to another.
LOCATION
This HolidayInn is located just off Junction 18 of the M1 (less than three minutes), about 5 miles from Rugby itself, and significantly more from Northampton. As such, its not really practical for anyone who is not driving, unless they are visiting a location close by and will be taxi-ing to and from Rugby train station. There is nothing significant in walking distance, so its main clientele is the executive or managerial crowd passing through on their way to points north/south, or seemingly ever-present conference delegations.

nearer 8 hours than 6). I arrived at Pontypool station at 5pm on a cold, windy day in what looked like monsoon season; I don’t think I had ever been so glad to see a hotel as I was then. Admittedly, HolidayInn Express wouldn’t be my first choice of accommodation (previous experience had taught me that they were lacklustre at best) but there was nothing else locally available outside of summer season, and at least it was close to the county museum I would be visiting the next day.

Let me start by explaining where this place is – I am aware that I got a lot of blank looks when I told people I was off to Pontypool! Torfaen is in the South East corner of Wales, not all that far from Newport. However, just to be awkward, the museum I wanted was not in Newport (relatively easy to get to) but ...

Location
The HolidayInn Leeds Garforth is located about 6 miles east of Leeds city centre. It is minutes away from junctions 46 and 47 of the M1 and close to the A1(M) and the M62. The hotel is located on the roundabout where the A63 and the A642 cross. On the other side of the roundabout there is a Beefeater. Garforth train station is roughly a mile from the hotel.
Check-in
Check-in was quick and the lady on the desk was pleasant and helpful. There were no queues and the hotel lobby was spacious and modern. Our room was located on the first floor and was a bit of a walk from the lobby.
