Advantages: Incredibly powerful drama in places Disadvantages: Takes too long to get anywhere
Munich is a poignant and dramatic, slow-moving Spielberg film that has at its core the effects and fallout from the 1972 Munich Olympic Games massacre. Members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually killed by a group known as Black September, reported to have ties to a militant group linked to the Fatah organisation.
The film opens with some graphic scenes showing the massacre within the first five or ten minutes, before Spielberg introduces us to the squad of assassins who then plan to hunt down 11 Black September members and kill them as revenge.
It is a very suspenseful and dramatic film, with patience needed throughout. Do not expect a fast paced tense thriller, because that's not what this is about. It's a serious drama, with the suspense the main focal point, and the emotions that the squad must go ...

Advantages: Beautiful City, Great Food, Wonderful Museums, Close to Alps Disadvantages: Too Many Tourists In The Summer
'In Munich Stands a Hofbräuhaus'?or so, roughly translated, runs one well-known staple of Munich's beerhall sing-alongs. MY MUNICH: I lived in Munich for about four years, in the late-seventies and early eighties. My earliest memories of the Hofbräuhaus involve sitting outside it in a parked Mercedes with my two brothers, when I was about six. Our father would drop in to have a beer, or two, with his German work colleagues, leaving us to wait squabbling in the back seat for an hour or so ...
Advantages: one of the must-see cities in Germany Disadvantages: none really
did see others during the day, two other men to be precise, which isn´t a striking figure, however, considering that Munich has 1 300 000 inhabitants (it´s the third largest German city after Berlin and Hamburg). They were all old and I assume that they get some pocket money from the tourist office to uphold the cliché that all Bavarians dress like that.
From there we went through some side streets to the Hofbräuhaus, the best known inn in the world. We met the ´Third Reich Walk´, also called ´Hitler´s Munich´ there, which got a more profound insight into history, but besides some vital info on beer (150 000 litres are pumped into the tank in the cellar every week) and the guests´ proper behaviour (Men, listen! If you don´t want to look like a sissy, don´t hold the 1 litre glass mug by its handle, but slip your hand through the handle ...
