The HI Group is itself part of a larger Group, Bass Hotels, which also includes the brands Inter-Continental and Forum Hotels.
I have myself stayed at five of the HI Group's hotels, and have spend a total of around 25 nights there:
~ HolidayInn Hotel, New York JFK Airport
~ HolidayInn Hotel, Warsaw
~ HolidayInn Hotel, Paris CDG Airport
~ HolidayInn Hotel, Istanbul
~ HolidayInn Crown Plaza, Istanbul
In order to stay within the right category, I will only discuss my experiences with the classic HolidayInn Hotels - and there the picture is very doom.

Advantages: Centrally located, Fantastic concierge service, Airport Transfer can be arranged Disadvantages: Located in the Garment District Credit Card takes a beating.
...Our second honey was going to be one to remember. I was gobsmacked walking through the revolving doors into the Ramada Plaza & Inn - New Yorker Hotel, New YorkCity. We had expected something quite shabby as it was a last minute deal through expedia.co.uk whilst sitting in Manchester Airport waiting for our flight to arrive. (Talk about last minute).
The hotel can arrange airport transfers in the form of a limousine service, they cover JFK Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark and LGA. The cars range from a comfortable 4 seater limousine to an overside SUV limousine. Of course this is at a price, it ranges from $65.00 to $110.00 (£35.00/40.00 to £60.00/70.00) not too expensive they will display your name on a board, taking the hassle out of waiting for taxi's.
We arrived quite late at night, the Lobby was immaculately clean...

...As I prepare for my trip to New York this upcoming week I decided to review the previous hotel that I stayed in for a long weekend in November back in 2003, The Travel Inn.
I was not originally meant to be staying at the Travel Inn as I had booked the four of us into the Hotel Newton which was located on 2528 Broadway and had a 1 star rating and at the time I did not realise how far this hotel was located from the Times Square area, and on arrival we were all beginning to worry about the distance to all the tourist facilities. On this occasion we were lucky, due to problems with existing guests we arrived at the hotel to check-in only to be told that there was no room and we were being transferred to a better hotel in a better location......BRILLIANT!!
The Travel Inn was our next location and the Hotel Newton even paid for us...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more

I stayed in this hotel in August 07, it had only been open for about 6 weeks so everything new, chose this hotel as it was advertised as being next dor to Chessington world of Adventures (where we were spending the day) plus it had a swimming pool,... more
We stayed here for a week in August. Check-in was very quick and the staff had put a cot in our room for our little one which was great. The rooms are a good size and are of a nice finish, fresh and quiet. The bed is a good size and the bathroom was... more
