I have stayed at this hotel a few times whilst visiting my sister in Oxford. It is on the outskirts of Oxford City close to the A34 which makes it handy to get to. It is a large hotel with a welcoming reception opening up into a lounge and bar. The staff were all welcoming and helpful and were exceptionally prompt with room service. On one of my stays I needed a travel cot which I didn't pre book and there was no trouble in having it brought to my room quickly.

The double rooms are modern, spacious enough, clean, tidy and are equipped with everything you would need. Each double room has a desk and chair, either a small sofa and table or 2 comfy chairs and table, plus bedside tables either side of bed. The TV has some sky channels as well as terrestrial. I liked the fact that they had tourist information for interesting things around Oxford as I think this is really useful when planning a stay.

The bathroom had a bath and power shower over, which was really powerful!! It also had the little things which you sometimes forget, such as shampoo, conditioner, shower hat, shoe shine and sewing kit.

I have stayed in both the standard rooms and executive, the executive really are only different because they have a black out screen (didn't find that essential for my stay), they have a mini bar (very expensive) and the use of a robe if using the leisure facilities. For the extra cost I didn't think it was worth it personally.

The leisure facilities were in my opinion really exceptional, and a plus for the hotel. They were very clean and had a relaxing atmosphere. The indoor pool was warm and seemed really large for a hotel, and the jacuzzi by the side was hot. There was also a gym but I didn't use it.

One of the main benefit of this hotel was the ample parking which was free, unlike some of the holiday inns. There is a park and ride bus within walking distance and so access into Oxford Town Centre was easy. It was far better to get the bus than park in the town as this is really expensive.

The only downside about this hotel was the restaurant was quite small, although the food was varied and good with cost being competive with local restaurants. If breakfast is not included in your room rate (optional) it is really quite expensive for the buffet style around £14.95 each. However, there is a Little Chef across the car park which offers breakfast cheaper.

I booked online which is cheaper and if you book in advance you can get a better price. There were various online sites offering discounts for this hotel, but I found the actual holiday inn site cheaper when I booked.

Quite a good review but but I think that it needs a lot more information and detail to justify a higher rating. Hotel reviews need to include everything from cost, to restaurant food to customer service to contents of the rooms. You might find it helpful if you read and rate some other peoples’ reviews (especially those that have been rated VH or E). It might give you an idea of the sort of things you need to include. If I can be of any help or if you decide to amend your review feel free to put a note in my gb, I’ll be happy to re-read and re-rate. Rich

Holiday Inn, Oxford - review by atlantis140

Advantages: Great Price. Good location for roads. Next to park and ride, cheaper than paying for parking!
Disadvantages: Another Holiday Inn, nothing that unique about it. Surly reception staff.
