Holiday Inn Republic, Paris, France

This is a big hotel near the centre of Paris, the website makes it look great, the façade and location are impressive, its got 4 stars, and loads of facilities BUT don’t go there unless you get a deal for £100 or less for two per night. The rack rate is an incredible 350 Euro’s.

Why is the hotel rubbish?

1 The rooms haven’t been refurbished since, ...
...at 11, I’ve stayed at Holiday Inns from Sri Lanka to Derby and they all manage a late bar why not here?
3 The restaurant is basic, dated and offers pretty basic crud for an unreasonable price, the buffet lunch looked worse, uninspiring meats/cheese and salad.
Butlins would be embarrassed serving this stuff.
4 The communal areas, corridors were bland and walls badly scuffed, carpets dirty etc.

1 The rooms haven’t been refurbished since, 1985 ish
2 The bar (says on the website opens “late”) shuts at 11, I’ve stayed at Holiday Inns from Sri Lanka to Derby and they all manage a late bar why not here?
3 The restaurant is basic, dated and offers pretty basic crud for an unreasonable price, the buffet lunch looked worse, uninspiring meats/cheese and salad.

5 The courtyard garden in the centre of the hotel looked inviting but was shut
6 The shower over the small bath didn’t work properly

I could go on, maybe the hotel is going to be refurbished soon, it needs it.
It is well below the standards of the other 20 odd Holiday Inn full service hotels I’ve stayed in, how it manages 4 stars is beyond me. In fact the Holiday Inn Express’s I’ve stayed in are better than this place and half the price.
I stay in 100+ hotels every year and this is the worst value for money hotel I’ve been in.
PS It was probably the bar shutting at 11 that irked me the most, and I did actually get a drink served to me in the foyer of the hotel after there was a near rebellion by me and other guests who were equally disappointed and angry at not been able to get a drink after 11.
