advertised as being within easy walking distance of the pacific coast, but I didn't feel they were worth the inflated price as we mainly wanted a base from which to explore, rather than an all singing all dancing resort. We came to choose this motel because it ticked all our boxes. It also had a choice of room sizes, from suites to what they call single kingsized bedrooms.

The Days InnSantaMonica is situated on the corner of SantaMonica Boulevard and Stanford Street, with the pedestrian entrance being in the Boulevard. If like us, you're driving here, you have to drive past the motel and turn into Stanford Street and then make a right into the motel car park. When I think of SantaMonica, it's all about the beaches (yes, where they filmed Baywatch apparently) and the pier.
To give you some idea of it's importance amongst locals, this pier was built in 1909. Now, at the risk of sounding patronising, most Americans' won't have seen many buildings of this age before. That's because SantaMonica is one of the neighbourhood's in Los Angeles and Los Angeles is all about the here and now, not the long forgotton. So to them, this pier is heritage, and just about as good as that gets!
Also, an important fact worth mentioning is that the historical Route 66, made famous by the Rolling Stones, ends just in front of the Pier. In the past my wife and I have been pretty relaxed about where and how we holiday. We've done all inclusive, B&B, Half Board, City Breaks, BeachHolidays, make it up as we go along etc.
However we now have a 5-year-old boy to look after and so our holidays have to be thought through in advance.
This year we chose Fuerteventura as our holiday destination and chose the MonicaBeach Hotel on the recommendation of our travel agent because of its reputation as a nice family orientated hotel.
The trip from Birmingham Airport takes about 4 to 4 1/2 hours. I'm not going to talk about the flight since different airlines will offer a different standard of service. Suffice to say that I travelled with MyTravel and went 'cattle class' :(
