A few years ago my mother-in-law bought a plot of land in the south of France with the intention of building a house to live in. That was the summer of 1998. That Christmas, my husband and I went to visit and we crammed as many wonderful places into our week holiday as possible. One place in particular was fascinating. This place was le city de l’espace, Toulouse. (Space City for anyone not up on the French lingo!) It was a relatively new attraction when we visited – less than a year since first opening. It was a huge place with outdoor and indoor attractions.

The crown Plaza hotel in the centre of the old town of Toulouse is a great place for a romantic weekend break. BMI fly in to Toulouse from Manchester so two hours after boarding the plane we had just a twenty minute (20 Euro) taxi drive from Toulouse Blagnac airport to get to the hotel. I booked using the www.ichotelsgroup.com website which is a very easy way of finding the best hotel anywhere in the world within the group (HolidayInn, Intercontinental and Crowne Plaza). So I had read that the location for this hotel was on Place Capitole in the centre of the old town of Toulouse. What a result. We didn't hire a car because we just wanted to stay in the city centre and do the café / museum / cathedral / restaurant chill out weekend and from this hotel just a short walk to all the above was possible. We stayed at the HolidayInn in Cardiff City Centre recently. The reason for our visit was because I was auditioning for the X Factor (again! - I didn't get through :( ) . We chose HolidayInn because we had stayed at the hotel on many occasions before and were pleased with it and it's value for money.
The hotel is located right by the Millenium Stadium. This was convenient for us because the auditioning for the X Factor took place in the Stadium. The hotel is a short 5 minute walk from the high street which was good!
Our room was located overlooking the Stadium's car park. This was good because this was where the queuing for the auditions took place. We were told to be there for 8AM however , when we woke up at 5Am the queue was massive!
