We had been backpacking around Australia for about 8.5 months, we had decided about 2 weeks before arriving in Sydney to return home as I had received some bad news regarding two of my family members. So we rearranged a number of our plans to ensure we could get a flight earlier and so that we could still do everything we wanted to. We booked ourselves into Home using an online website which we had used before and that generally is cheaper than other comparison websites and cheaper than going directly to the hotel/hostel. We arrived in Sydney by coach at about 11am, we only had to walk around the corner to get to the hostel. The location of the hostel wasnt fantastic, but it was around from Central Station and it it was only a short walk into the city centre which was useful and meant we didnt have to spend money on public transport. On arrival at the hostel - it didnt look much from the outside, but I was openminded. The BOY who served me was an idiot - I believe he was also a backpacker as we saw him around the hostel on his days off. He was very rude when he told me the total cost I told him that was incorrect and quoted him the price we had been quoted online, he was impolite and told me to prove it!!! I told him that I hadnt been able to print the correspondence off and that I would if I would use the internet, then I requested to see the room and in a rude manner he said I would have to wait for 3 hrs, as it hadnt been cleaned and that no one was around to show me the room. I told him I was happy to leave all of m things with him if I could quickly go up and have a look even though it hadnt been cleaned, he just said no and began to ignore me. After looking into the price information he then told me how much it would be for the room and this time it was the price I had quoted in the first place!!!! eventually someone showed us the room before we paid. It was ok, it wasnt the Ritz and it wasnt as nice as other hostels, but I wasnt in the mood to mess about I was just ready to go home. Throughout our last five nights I refused to deal with him when I needed to know something, my partner would ask him or I would wait until the young lady was on - she was very helpful very polite and happy to help. The place wasnt the best, breakfast is very small but we were never up early enough anyway, there is no aircon so we had to have the window open but the room we were in was on the front of the hostel and so we had the noise from the traffic in the morning, all of the staff that I dealt with apart from the girl did not live up to the standards of good customer service and it definately did not live up to the standard of 'HOME'. If you are staying in Sydney for a while I wouldnt suggest staying her for more than a few nights.
