a real taste of the orient
Advantages: so much to see and do Disadvantages: none
Hong Kong - A Taste of the Orient - another of my favourite cities. Hong Kong is a city that never sleeps, the New York of the east with a dose of the orient chucked in for good measure. Its gritty reality means Hong Kong is the real deal, far removed from the sanitised versions of the Far East found in cities like Singapore. Gateway to China and a consumer and cultural haven packed into small area, Hong Kong has something for everyone. Ideal for ... ...of the high rises of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon are impressive and where better to see them than from Victoria Peak, catch the Peak Tram for spectacular views of the city, so steep is the ride that the floor of the tram is angled to allow standing passengers to remain upright. Running for over 100 years the Peak Tram is a Hong Kong institution and must do for any visitor. Round off your visit with a trip to the famous Peak Café for lunch or dinner ...

A Truly Life Changing Experience
Advantages: Everything transport food shopping sight seeing.... Disadvantages: Disneyland Hong Kong please avoid
I have had the opportunity of visiting Hong Kong twice in my relatively short lifetime. I first visited when I was around nine years of age and the experience seemed to pass me by extremely quickly. However my second visit to Hong Kong at the age of fifteen was a genuine life changing experience, realising the destination where I desired to live and work. My mother and her family are Chinese and returning to their Homeland was an emotional experience. ... ...Earth has affected me more than my visit in the summer of 2007.
The city of Hong Kong is one of vibrancy and beauty. It is strange describing a hustle and bustling city as one of Beauty however Hong Kong is not like any other city. Hong Kong is a city of diversity and variety. One can expect the usual towering skyscrapers of large cities of the world however Hong Kong differs vastly as the city has areas of pure tranquillity and peace such as Lantau ...

From an ex-tour guide on Hong Kong Island
Advantages: Food and Shopping paradise Disadvantages: Pollution is quite bad
...should have a say on Hong Kong Island, considering the fact that I've lived there for more than 18 years. For a view of how Hong Kong has emerged as a truly international city, do go have a look.
First I'll have to start off where you leave the Hong Kong International Airport. Take the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station, the first thing for a shop-aholic to do is to explore Central. Right where you come out of the station is the International ... ...Places to eat: famous Hong Kong dishes include dimsum, fishball and wonton noodles and seafood, but international dishes are also very authentic. Dimsum in JADE restaurant, Exchange Square 2, Central, and Zen in Pacific Place, Admiralty, are my personal favourites, but the Chinese restaurants in hotels also have really exquisite dimsum. The word dimsum means to touch the heart in Cantonese, and I do hope these meticulously prepared savouries can ...

my 4 year stay in kowloon
Advantages: Great place Disadvantages: not a lot
...the raf we lived in Kowloon tong and went to st Georges secondary school which was for forces children but also locals and other nationalities did attend I remember in a class of 30 there would be a mixture of Chinese English Japanese's Korean and Indian children all of us were great mates and got along well In Hong Kong I learnt how eat with chop sticks and some of the native spoken caterniese which sorry to say I can say but not spell lol

Cheung Chau Island
Advantages: A great escape from the city & no cars Disadvantages: Ferrell dogs
...most densely populated of the outlying islands, however this shouldn't put off people who are looking for peaceful walks away from the hustle bustle of Hong Kong Island. Cheung Chau is a 40 minute (fast ferry) or 55 minute (ordinary ferry) boat ride away from Hong Kong Island. The boat arrives at the ferry pier in Cheung Chau village, which is where the majority of the population of the island lives. The village has a number of seafood restaurants ... ...over one of the other outlying islands. There is a promenade that links Sai Wan and Cheung Chau village, however for the novelty value of it we chose to get a ride on a junk boat (kaido) back to the village. This took about 5 minutes across the harbour and costs about HK$3.
All in all Cheung Chau is well worth a visit for a few hours if you fancy an escape from the mayhem of Hong Kong Island to see a more traditional area of the region. ...
