Great experience to see the 'real' Hong Kong Advantages: Local culture Disadvantages: Beds are 'hard' to get used to Stayed here in February 2008 before embarking on a cruise to Vietnam and China. If you want to experience a more authentic Hong Kong I would highly recommend it although it does come as a bit of a shock at first. I wouldn't say that this hotel is really in a tourist area at all although I loved it precisely for that reason. It is very easy to get to using the underground system (Prince Edward station is the closest) and is within easy walking distance ... ...see. The hotel itself is clean and well laid out. The room had a king bed with a small table and chair. The room including the bathroom was clean and had nice furnishings. The most important thing to be aware of is the bed. The mattress is incredibly firm and although it is possible to sleep on it ther is little if any mor cushioning than on a floor. The Royal Pacific Hotel has the best location in Hong Kong Advantages: Very good location, view of Victoria Harbour Disadvantages: Front desk was slow. The buffet restaurant serves almost the same menu everyday. ...And just below it is the Hong Kong-Macao ferry wharf. But i think the front desk people were rather slow. When we checked in, it took us about 30 min to get through. It was a bit crowded. The rooms were rather small, but were well-appointed and clean. They have a great buffet but I would not recommend the guest to rely on it for all their meals during their stay. They just kind of repeat the menu everyday. Have stayed there twice and it is fantastic. Advantages: Attached to the Airport and a high quality hotel. Disadvantages: A few miles from the tourist areas. ...was great is that the Regal Airport Hotel as the name suggests is actually built on to the Airport building. Having collected my baggage and cleared customs I simply wheeled my baggage trolley to the front left corner of the airport lounge, swung left and on to an enclosed raised walk way which led right up to the hotel entrance. It was about 6 minutes of leisurely walking with my trolley and I arrived at the check in desk of the hotel. The staff ... ...and for weddings. The Regal brand is excellent and operates 8 hotels in the Hong Kong and Shanghai region. There is an Underground railway station inside the airport which takes just 5 minutes to walk to from the hotel and will get you easily anywhere on the underground network including into the business district or any of the other islands or regions of Hong Kong. Great hotel, terrible restaurants Advantages: Nice facility Disadvantages: Don't eat here The hotel staff was very good, particularly Alan the hotel manager. The rooms were well maintained and all of the staff were courteous and efficient. But the hotel restaurants were atrocious. We tried three of them, and the only food even remotely acceptable was the breakfast in L'eau. Avanti Ristorante, the "Italian" offering, served food with Italian names but it did not resemble Italian cuisine. The shrimp Penne tasted as though the shrimp should ... ...when the meals were served. Clearly no Italians were involved in the menus or serving style of Avanti's. The Japanese restaurant (Aji Bou Izakaya) was a tragic experience from the start. No one could explain how the buffet worked, and the food was bland yet expensive. We've never been in a more confusing restaurant, and not a single employee could understand the concept of a side salad. After choking down the meager meals, our table was cleared ...
