Hong Kong is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Named as one of the safest cities, Hong Kong is renowned for it's nightlife. Most streets get busier in the evening and it's not rare to see restaurants open until 4AM, which is perfect for jetlagged travellers!
The scenery is beautiful and Hong Kong is host to over 40 beaches. A "Concrete Jungle" is probably the most apt term that could ever be used to describe this hot, subtropical play pen to the rich and famous of China.
Host to a wide variety of markets, bargains are easy to find in this bustling city. Make sure you visit Temple Street in Mong Kok for one of the longest street markets in Asia! Others include the Ladies Market, the Central Lanes, Aberdeen Market, Tsim Tsa Tsui's Granville Road and Jardine's Bazaar.
Hong Kong is an extremely mountainous piece of land and the city is built around this beautiful forest. Suprisingly, Hong Kong is over 70% greenery!
The most popular attraction in Hong Kong is the Victoria Peak, which was a residential area in the Colonial times. You can catch a tram from Central which goes up a steep mountain through Mid-Levels. The Peak is host to a variety of popular restaurants and has a view that is absolutely breathtaking. From the Peak, you can see the whole of Hong Kong island, the harbour and most of Kowloon.
Hong Kong is great value for money with its huge variety of cheap but great quality hotels. The food is cheap (Noodles and a drink cost me £1) and the people are incredibly friendly.
Transport is incredible. Then again, after the tube, anywhere would be better! There are plenty of buses, which run incredibly frequently for very cheap (30p per bus ride!). The trams are a beautiful addition at a bargain price of 15p! They run through the northern line of Hong Kong island and you can travel from one side to the other on one! The MTR (tube) is incredibly efficient with trains running every 2-3 minutes and throughout my 18 month stay, none of the lines ever broke down!
One of the best cities in the world, undoubtedly! Don't miss it. If you do go, try and go between November and March. The summer is host to the rainy season where typhoons and heavy rain are a frequent occurance. It also can get extremely hot and humid during this time which makes the trip a tiny bit less bearable!

Advantages: All foreign countries have tha advantage of being different to your hoome. If you are like me, this bad review will make you want to go there and experience it for yourself. Just take my advice and dont prioritise it. Disadvantages: Dirty, expensive, unfriendly atm, busy, smoggy, ther are better places to backpack.
