Horsing Around Near Bristol

Advantages: A good day out, family fun, reasonably priced, lots of animals
Disadvantages: Food slightly over-priced, quite a bit of walking involved

...three or four hours at HorseWorld as my eldest daughter had to be back by 4pm, but you could easily spend the seven hours there, to get the most out of your ticket money. We hadn't really had time to do everything we wanted to and the kids weren't ready to leave yet.

So, how did our day go and what did we do there? More importantly, did we all enjoy ourselves and were all our varied needs catered to? After all, we had little Beth to ...
...after the horses and donkeys. HorseWorld is a registered charity and they rescue, rehabilitate and re-home horses. The website tells us that they re-homed over a hundred horses in 2004. We saw their facilities in HorseWorld and the neighbouring Keynes Farm, where they train them, socialize them, treat any health problems and generally look after them to the best of their ability.

I was very impressed with this aspect. There is a guide ... more

Great Place to Visit.

Advantages: Worthy Cause, Friendly Staff, lots to do. Free Parking
Disadvantages: Must be a dry day as much of it is outdoors.

first visited Horseworld in January 2009. I happened to be driving past and noticed they were advertising Half Price entry during January. So a few days later myself and my friend took our 2 little girls (both aged 1 at the time). It's a little gem of a place, I can't believed i never visited sooner especially with living only a 20 minutes drive away. We loved it so much we became season ticket holders on our second visit. =====HISTORY====== Horseworld ...
...was until the early 2000's Horseworld was given their title and a Visitors Centre. =====HORSEWORLD TODAY===== The charity are now responsible for 200 animals on site (Visitors Centre and Keynes Farm) and 275 animals being cared for through loan homes. They looked after Horses and Ponies-from Shetland to Shire, Donkeys, Pigs, Goats, Hens, Cockrels, Ferrets, Rabbits and much more. Horseworld work hard to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome all their ...

Horse Jumping Competitions  World Motorcycle Championship Races  World Bridge Championship  World Windsurf Championship  Formula 1 Historic World Championship  Estoril Music Festival Rating: 10 out of 10 THE WEBSITE The hotel's website, http://www.palacioestorilhotel.com, provides a lot of its information and shows how to reserve the room. A Pleasure Filled Day

Advantages: Great rides for all the family
Disadvantages: The queues and some things expensive

rollercoaster and Avalanche where you get to experience the thrill of a bobsleigh track. From the family rides my favourite has got to be the Grand National where you jump on a horse and race another rider who rides on a track alongside you to the finish line. The Ghost Train is the oldest in the world dating from 1930 and still makes you jump as you ride along in the dark and come face to face with skeletons and ghosts. Sir Hiram Maxim?s flying machines are simple aeroplanes which fly round in circles high off the ground, they must have been cutting edge in 1904 when they opened but are still a good family ride today. The Wild Mouse rollercoaster is one of the oldest in the world and these days is tame in comparison to the major thrill rides and great for families. When we visited in 2008 with two young boys we spent a significant amount ...

RIDE THE WHITE STALLIONS

Advantages: wonderful Lipizzaner horses, green & luscious countryside
Disadvantages: I couldn't stay longer!

as well as Austria. It is also bred in lesser numbers elsewhere in Europe. Austrian Archduke Charles II founded the Lipica Stud Farm in 1580; making it one of the oldest horse studs in the world. Today, Lipica succeeds in carrying on its 400-year-old tradition of selective breeding of purebred Lipizzaner horses for the needs of the classical school of riding, dressage and carriage driving. The Lipizzaner stands at around 15.1 to 16.2 hands high. They are strong, powerful horses who are intelligent and willing. The breed is long lived, many horses achieving 30 to 35 years of age and many school horses continue to perform difficult movements well into their twenties. Lipican foals are born black, bay or dark grey and change colour as they mature; firstly to a lighter grey and eventually to white when they are between 6 and 10 ...
