Advantages: Cheap, clean and safe Disadvantages: Not for the faint-hearted if you don't like the real world
...I did not mean to stay in a Hotel81hotel. I was planning to be in transit through Singapore at my own expense for a day or so.I tried three four-star special offers. The first two came back after about 12 hrs to inform me that their hotel was full on the dates in question.
The third hotel was also full but offered me a hotel, Hotel81 Geyland on Lorong 20, which they recommended for a cost of about £20 per night. Time was a bit tight ,but the photo looked OK on-line and the price was fantastic so I booked it and this is where I stayed, and stayed again on two further visits later in the year.
This hotel is not for seekers of de-luxe accommodation. The rooms are completely basic and quite small. My room had an air-conditioner (which did not cost extra to use), a small bathroom with toilet and shower and a welcome bag...

...Fullerton is the latest addition to the luxury hotels in the city and even Martine McCutcheon stayed in Fullerton Hotel last time when she was in Singapore!
The Fullerton Building was built in 1928 and has housed the General Post Office, the Exchange, The Chamber of Commerce and The Singapore Club. The most recent occupants were the Singapore Post, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, and a branch of the POSBank.
The Fullerton Hotel enjoys a fabulous location right in front of the Merlion. It is also very close to The Esplanade, the newly opened music and theatre venue. There is an underpass from Fullerton Hotel to One Fullerton which has restaurants and nightclubs.
There are five resutaurants in the hotel. The Courtyard, Lighthouse , Town, The Post Bar and Jade.THe Courtyard is the lobby lounge and the Lighthouse restaurant has...

...We have stayed here a couple of times on airline stopovers, as part of the all-in deal.
The hotel's name is due to that fact that it was originally two hotels which they knocked into one, and kept both names. For this reason it is housed in two tall twin towers.
It's a big hotel with 580 rooms, and is busy all the time. Everything ran smoothly with our stay, and there was no problem with the room, which was completely normal, comfortable, and unremarkable for a hotel of that type - a medium priced range big city Singaporehotel. En suite - tea and coffee making - TV, aircon, etc....
The hotel has a wide range of facilities as you'd expect, including laundry service, moneychanger, etc. One interesting aspect of the hotel is the swimming pool. It is off the foyer, and is glass sided so you can see the people swimming as you sit...

I have stayed in a few Singapore hotels, and generally the standard is extremely good, so I was surprised to be so disappointed with The Miramar. I chose it because I was on a stopover and got a cheap deal. As I have seen the sights of Sing before,... more
