Advantages: GREAT LOCATION NEAR THE BEACH Disadvantages: RIMINI
Rimini is not my idea of a perfect destination in Italy, but it's close to San Marino, which isn't a perfect destination in Italy either when you come to think of it. Anyway, Rimini worked out fine for us last year as we wanted to visit San Marino and the choice of hotels was so much better.
That's why we went there - now for where we went there.
We opted for the Ramada Villa Rosa, mainly for the location it has to be said, but also because it looked a half decent hotel at a half decent price (80 euros).
The location couldn't be any better. It's 5 minutes from the historic town centre, sits right on the main drag just across the road from the beach and surrounded by bars and restaurants. We weren't really there for the beach, the historic town centre wasn't up to much but the bars and restaurants held a little more appeal ...
Advantages: Location to beach, nice area of Rimini Disadvantages: Some room rates require extra £ to use private beach
We stayed at this hotel after booking a cheap 'new route' flight via Easyjet. The hotel has a feeling of being in an Agatha Christie novel with a certain shabby chic and some interesting people-watching moments - wealthy Europeans and Americans. Service was generally great, location was good (just across the road to the beach) and hotel facilities are easily sufficient. Breakfasts were fantastic.
My main criticisms are that 1) the Internet saver rate for our room meant we weren't entitled to use the hotel's private beach facilities without paying an additional (rather extortionate) sum 2) the room could have done with a refresh of decor - although it had a great Art deco feel with a balcony view of the pretty, well-kept gardens.
I would stay here again. ...
There are two main museums in Florence that are worth visiting. In my last trip to Florence, I've chosen the Accademia. The reason behind this decision is because of the Statue of David by Michelangelo. The gallery is perhaps best-known for Michelangelo's David, removed after four centuries from Piazza Signoria, now exhibited in a specially constructed hall. Personally, I have come across many replicas of the statue, from places as far as Gold Coast Australia. The place is not huge, may only take up to 1 1/2 to finish looking at all the exhibition, but you will find many works by the famous Michelangelo. Some examples are his "Slave" series and his sculpture of San Matteo. Also featured in the gallery is an impressive collection of religious paintings from the 13th to 16th century. ...
