Advantages: Themed, magical for kids, customer focused staff Disadvantages: expensive during school holidays
...I have been visiting both hotels every year since the Alton Towers Hotel opened in 1996. In that time there have been many changes. Most are not for the better. Although I still feel the resort as a whole represents very good value at off - peak times, at the end and beginning of the season. There are also less queues in the theme park at these times.
The Alton Towers Hotel has an all together more formal atmosphere, more sedate and more suited to older guests wanting a little peace. Splashlandings is more relaxed, informal and more suited to families.
The rooms as you would expect are totally different. The A.T. hotels are formally decorated, rooms for four. One double, one single and a pull out bed. The rooms are comfortable and always clean. In splashlandings, rooms hold either 4 or 6 beds, with the additional pullout double sofa...

Advantages: All in one package Disadvantages: Price
...We've just come back from a one night stay at Splash Landings Hotel at Alton Towers.
It was brilliant! I was like a kid again!! We arrived at splash landings at 3pm and went straight for the pool - it's an indoor and outdoor water theme park - really well decoration and very clean. There are lots of life guards everywhere around the pools - probably not a place to go if you "just want a swim" - there are jets of water everywhere not to mention the slides, rapids, hot baths etc!
We paid for a package to stay at the hotel which included entrance to the theme park as well. This is the best thing we've ever done, ever! As a hotel guest, you get let in to the park an hour earlier than the general public - so we rode on all the best rides a few times without having to queue. You also get "Priority passes" to a few of the popular rides...

Advantages: BRILLIANT theming, lots of fun Disadvantages: None!
...I stayed in the Splash Landings Hotel in Alton Towers for my birthday last year, and I absolutely loved every minute of it.
Though I was initially sad that I could not afford the high prices of the original Alton Towers hotel, I am now glad that I could not - Splash Landings is much, much better - and a much greater value too!
I went with four other friends, and we all had a superb time. The hotel is brilliantly themed. There are so many little details that the staff have added, it truly is a magical experience. From the moment you look at it from the outside to the moment you actually step in, whoever designed the hotel did a wonderful job. It was exactly what I wanted in a hotel. Checking in was easy enough - the staff were also friendly, and gave us all the information we needed, as well as chocolate coins that we could...
