Advantages: Location is excellent Disadvantages: Small hotel, small rooms
...I stayed in this hotel at the beginning of August for 1 night only.
I found it quite difficult to find a hotel in Amsterdam in the city centre for a reasonable amount of money.
We paid 120 euros for 1 room for 1 night. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from central station, so the location is excellent. The rooms are basic, with a comfortable double bed (a double bed not 2 singles - which is unusual), wardrobe, television and a bathroom with shower. The rooms though small were clean and generally in a good condition.
My friends also stayed at this hotel and their room was slightly nicer than ours, they also had a small 2 seater sofa in their room, whereas our room was smaller and did not have this.
You have to walk through a restaurant to get to the hotel, which I found quite strange at first, but all the hotels on that road are the same...

Advantages: Excellent prices when booked online. Clean, basic accomodation, superb location! Disadvantages: Very basic, long way up to 4th floor!
...I recently got back from a short break in Amsterdam, where I had a fantastic time exploring this vibrant and exciting city.
I've already reviewed the superb airline I flew with (Jet2.com) - check them out, but that leaves the accommodation. I was recommended this hotel by a friend who said it was basic but clean and the location was superb. He advised me to book online with www.bookings.nl (which I intend to also review shortly) to get the best price.
So I did, and sure enough, within minutes I was booked into the Hotelde Gerstekorrel for just 45 Euros a night for a single room WITH en-suite! There's gotta be some kind of catch I thought... well there is, slightly, you have to pay another 5% city tax on top of that but thats all. Got a friendly confirmation email shortly afterwards, which I printed and took with me.
I arrived...

...gables, and also provides a good daytime activity. You can get a sightseeing boat (De Rondvaartboot) that holds 30 people to view these houses.
Another fun and interesting way to view Amsterdam is by bicycle. You will see them across Amsterdam in their thousands and they can be hired at Mac Bike Cycle Hire. The bikes can be pre booked and picked up from many central locations. Escorted tours are also available in and around Amsterdam and can be booked locally. Bike insurance is included and it will cost you £5.50 for daily hire.
The City Coach Tour in Amsterdam lets tourists view the Royal Palace and the Skinny Bridge and also visit a windmill and a diamond factory on the river Amstel. The costs will be around £10 for a 2 ½ hour coach ride. The coaches are daily in summer at 10am and 2:30pm and winter at 2:30pm. Also during the day you...
