Argos is different to any other high street retailer due to the method is sells items. Like in conventional shops, the items for sale are not on display for you to look and try, except in a big catalogue listing everything argos sells and not putting the items on the shop floor (except some items which I'll come back to later!). The catalogue listing all the items is roughly about 2000 pages, which is an awful lot of items! Each item has a price, a short description, a catalogue number, with the majority, but not all, having a picture of the item. Argos releases a new catalogue about 3 times a year, which if you didn't know is free to take from any store!
The idea behind argos is that the customer goes home and chooses what they want to buy. They then come into store where there are more catalogues places around the shop floor, this ...

Advantages: Wide range of products. Their own Value range does offer some decent bargains. Disadvantages: Sometimes have to wait too long.
There are very few high streets in the UK that don't have the iconic Argos or Argos Extra store somewhere along them. For decades Argos has been the place to go for more or less anything, and still is to this day. I refer in particular to the Argos branches in Southampton, and the one in the High Street. When you walk in there is a massive area of almost complete openness, bar a few catalogues and stock-checking machines for your convenience. Right at the far end is the collection area, and to the right-hand side are several tills and a queuing area to be served. Alongside this is a tiny ...

Advantages: Extensive range of products. Disadvantages: Some aspects poor, especially communication, damaged goods.
I have bought from Argos on a number of occasions. I bought the following items.
1) Sony Camcorder--No problems with this.
2) EKS Medical Scales--No problems with this.
3) Hotpoint washing machine--A nightmare, but to be fair to Argos this was the manufacturers problem, and Argos returned my money. Three Hotpoint engineers visited my home to try and repair the machine under warranty, and they all failed. I was without a machine for three weeks, totally unacceptable.
4) A Tricity Bendix Electric Cooker--This arrived with the left hand side panel damaged and I had to wait a week or so to get it replaced. This was no doubt damaged in transit, but the inconvenience was a factor which angered me.
5) A Canon flatbed scanner, which has not arrived and I have contacted Argos by
e mail three times, and had no response to date. I have ...
