I am well travelled both with work and for fun, I love my cats and horses spending lots of time riding. Am married to a kiwi which makes it fun when we watch England vs the All Blacks at rugby!

I have stayed at the Hotel Aris Nord in Paris on a number of occasions. Whilst it is not a luxurious hotel it is functional, friendly and reasonable and I would highly recommend it.
Location
It is ideally located for Eurostar trips to Paris being about 5 minutes walk from the Gare du Nord. It is also 5 minutes walk away from Gare du L'est so is in easy reach of the Metro and mainline.
The Rue du Fauborg is an exciting street (although quiet enough to sleep). It has many bars / restaurants along it. Due to this being an ethnic quarter of Paris there are many Indian / Albanian and other ethnic restaurants. Of course there are also the traditional french bars and brasseries selling steak, chips, red wine and beer. As these tend to be inhabited by the French rather than tourists they are reasonably priced.
Price
The hotel has rooms ranging from €80 - €200 per night and has single/ double/ triple and twin rooms. We have used it for the world cup and have not paid more than €85 per night, although that may change for the final this weekend.
Breakfast is not included in the price but there is a great bakery opposite selling croissant for €1 so I would go there. You can buy breakfast in the hotel for €12 per person but at that price for average coffee and a dry croissant this is not recommended.
Facilities
This is a basic French hotel. It has a lift (although you will struggle to fit more than two people and luggage into the lift). It has a fridge in reception and you can buy beer / soft drinks here.
There are televisions in each of the room and all rooms are ensuite with a toilet and shower. A hairdryer is available in each room.
The decor is plain and the rooms are not flash but for the price that you are paying you cannot possibly complain.
Cleanliness The rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard.
Booking
We have always booked by email or telephone but you can now book online using http://www.city-paris-hotels.com/aris-nord-hotel.htm. Be warned that the prices on this website are higher than when you book directly with the hotel.
Service
Service at the hotel is generally good although do not expect all service with a smile. You have to pay on arrival but the hotel takes cash and cards so there are no problems if you arrive with no Euros.
Overall
If you are looking for a budget hotel in Paris that is clean and well located (and therefore a cut above many other budget hotels) then this is the hotel for you.
Don't expect anything flash but for a city break (or the rugby) this is perfect.
