Having looked up reviews on the internet before I went to Barcelona, I was pleased that the Hotel Auto Hogar (my place of residence for 7 days and nights) seemed to be of a pleasing nature. And that was confirmed when I arrived.
Obviously you look forward to your holiday and I was certainly doing that in the weeks leading up to my departure. I arrived in sunny Spain, made my way using train and metro to the hotel and was greeted by a lovely receptionist named Raquel. She was very welcoming and continued to be throughout the duration of my stay, as did all of the staff.
The Avenida Paral-lel is on of the busiest roads in Barcelona, and as you can imagine, very busy, so it is good that the hotel have glass that keeps the sound out, except for the odd siren ringing from one of the emergency services.
I was lucky to have a room with a balcony, overlooking the main road (I love people watching!) as some of the other rooms room out on to a disused courtyard in the back rooms of the hotel. The balconies have the sun for most of the day (until around 5pm) and are really good for sunbathing.
The maids do a really good job in cleaning the room's and making the beds except they do seem to forget to stock up on the loo-roll (not good early in the morning!)
Auto Hogar's location is great, right by the Paral-lel metro station on Linea 3 and the up-hill train to Montjuic. Linea 3 takes you right to Catalunya and Sants Estacio and the latter up to the pitoresque views over the city as well as the Olympic Stadium complex.
Breakfast at the hotel is basic and not as nice as others I have had in Spanish hotels. But it is perfectly edible and do stock up as it is a buffet and it will save you money on food during the day.
All in all this is a wicked hotel, in a great location with excellent, friendly and very helpful staff. They do appreciate you speaking Spanish but their English is excellent!
If you are in Barcelona looking for a hotel, choose this one, I certainly will be going back!
