colour, flavour and Andalusian and Latin American cultures. The colonial style is evident throughout its 8 rooms, which are all comfortable spaces in the original style of the establishment. In the exuberant central patio, there are often art exhibitions. The restaurant Guadalupana Cantina is found in the subterranean arched ceiling rooms dating from the 17th century. Mexican cuisine is served in the restaurant.

Mercaderes is a traditional hotel in Seville city centre. Set on a quiet cobbled street, it is situated between the historic and commercial centres, within 200 metres of Plaza San Francisco, the cathedral, and the shops of calle Sierpes. Seville Airport (SVQ) is 14 kilometres away. Hotel Features. Guests relax on wicker chairs and enjoy a coffee beneath the intricate coloured glass roof of the central patio, with its marble floors and columns, potted palms, and Moorish lamps. Concierge staff provide advice on sightseeing and tour bookings in the city and surrounding area. Two complimentary, high speed Internet PCs are available in the lobby for the use of all guests. For business guests there is meeting room for 15 people, as well as fax services. Beneath the hotel lies a parking garage (surcharge). Although the Casa de los Mercaderes does not have a restaurant, buffet breakfast (surcharge) is served each morning and guests can enjoy snacks and drinks throughout the day in the courtyard. Room service is also available. Guestrooms. The 47 air conditioned guestrooms are spread over two floors and have light decor featuring floral motifs, and cherry wood furniture. Beds have wrought iron or cherry wood frames. Amenities include satellite TV, minibars, and safes. Marble bathrooms feature Andalusian style tiles, and complimentary toiletries. Expert Tip. The tower of the Giralda, attached to the cathedral and 200 metres from the hotel, is one of Seville's most recognisable and emblematic sights. Originally built as a Muslim minaret and once the tallest tower in the world, the Giralda is now open to the public. A 98 metre ramp goes to the top of the tower, which offers one of the best views across the city.

Advantages: Small bubbly friendly hotel with lots going on Disadvantages: Short uphill walk from slopes, initial cost quite expensive
Myself, my partner and our two children stayed here from boxing day 2004 into the New Year of 2005. It's a small family run hotel with a really genuine friendly feel. It's English speaking (well Australian) but when we stayed there were a few other Nationalities staying too.
The rooms are quite small but adequate (En suite,tv, telephone although no coffee/tea facilities- so make sure you take a travel kettle or better still buy a cheapo while there). The rooms were lovely and warm all the time. Our room was located at the front with a balcony and the views were amazing - every morning i lay in bed with the curtains open gazing at a snow covered mountain peak and the sky...bliss.
The rooms sleep 2-3 with 3 single beds in each - had 2 rooms next to each other and pushed 2 singles to make a double and top and tailed the children. We ...
Advantages: The Mezquita, the Jewish Quarter, the history Disadvantages: The heat
.50.
Of course, there is far more to Córdoba than just the Mezquita.
There's the fortress on the river, the ALCÁZAR DELOS REYES CRISTIANOS which was built in 1328 and from where Ferdinand and Isabella governed Castille during their preparation to reconquer Granada. This is where Columbus told Isabella of his plans of exploration - there's a statue depicting this momentous occasion. It's worth a visit if only for the beautiful gardens, but there are the remains of a Roman temple and some excellent examples of mosaics on show.
The opening hours are far too convoluted to list here, suffice to say, it's closed from 14.000-18.00 for the siesta and admission is ? 2.
Speaking of the river, there are some lovely walks alongside where you can see the remains of several old, Moorish mills, one of which used to pump water up to the gardens ...

Advantages: Great location Disadvantages: Rooms on the small side
One of the places we really wanted to see when we were in Andalucia was the city of Córdoba. What we particularly wanted to see there was the Mezquita (the old Moorish mosque) and to wander around the tangled maze of the Jewish Quarter. (Read all about it in my preview)
So with this in mind, and an pigheaded doggedness to book a hotel that was exactly right (when I say pig-headed doggedness, obviously I refer to a wish to please Mrs P and so avoid getting an earful for choosing a crappy hotel), I searched the net until my fingers bled, metaphorically speaking. I found a suitable one on a site called atrapalo.com - a Spanish travel site which is well worth checking out. I paid ? 53 per night room only - the rack rate for B&B is nearer ? 100 (? 1 = 67p approx.), not too shabby.
The hotel is located in the heart of Córdoba's old town ...
