Advantages: Superb location, comfortable accomodation, helpful staff Disadvantages: No major disadvantages to the actual hotel itself
In "the city that never sleeps," especially if you're visiting for the first time, it's all about site-seeing, shopping, and taking advantage of New York's endless amount of restuarants. So when choosing a hotel, it's all about location!
I took my first ever visit to New York (and certainly not my last, taking into consideration the amazing time I had there) in February 2007, for a school trip, and stayed in Park CentralHotel.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I was delighted when we first arrived at the Park Centralhotel - the immaculate lobby and reception area, with brown leather sofas and sparkling floor tiles, was classy and modern. We were greeted by friendly staff who gave us our room keys, and we went off up the lifts (we didn't fancy taking the stairs, having being accomodated on numerous floors up the building!) to our room ...
Advantages: Mazda Factory tour, Centrally located Baseball stadium and sights & incredible Miyajima daytrip. Disadvantages: Expensive of accomodation!
the most useful mode of transport in the city and you will probably want to near that. Anything near the station would be well placed, or in the centre of town. Plucking a name from my Lonely Planet, the Hotel Kokusai looks very well positioned indeed. When my parents came they stayed next to the railway station in the New Hiroden and this was reasonably priced, though certainly not budjet, and also well positioned. The Hiroshima Youth Hostel, as the Lonely Planet points out, is in a rather inconvient location, about 2km north of town. If you could stretch to about 4000 Yen you could get a better hotel nearer the centre of town and probably have a much better time - certainly you'd see more.
For food start at the A-Bomb dome or baseball stadium and head east along the main road and tram line. Any of the streets off to the side of this ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of Hiroshima (Japan)
Advantages: A beautiful and historic city! Disadvantages: I can't speak Japanese!
Hiroshima is the capital city of the Hiroshima Prefecture (Hiroshima-ken) which is in western Honshu. This Japanese city is famous for having suffered the first atomic bomb on 6 August 1945. Since then it has become a city devoted to peace and the eradication of all forms of mass destruction. More personally for me it is the city where my old housemate teaches English to Japanese school children. This year I visited Japan and stayed with my friend in Kure, a small town forty minutes by bus or train from Hiroshima.
GETTING THERE
I came into Narita airport which is about an hour by Express train from Tokyo. I then changed and got on the Shinkansen, or Bullet train, destined for Hakata. The Shinkansen is not cheap, but for me this was still going to work out cheaper than flying into Osaka airport. If you do fly in to Osaka you may ...
